Stevens Graphics Acquires Four-Over-Four Mitsubishi Diamond Tandem Perfector

ATLANTA — Stevens Graphics, Inc., the third largest directory printer in the United States, has purchased a new 28 x 40-inch Mitsubishi Diamond 3000TP Tandem Perfector. The highly automated eight-color press with tower coater was demonstrated in the Mitsubishi exhibition area at Graph Expo and Converting Expo 2004. It was delivered to Stevens Graphics' manufacturing plant in Birmingham, Ala., at the conclusion of the show. A wholly owned subsidiary of BellSouth Corp., Stevens Graphics operates two dedicated directory and catalog printing plants, in Atlanta and Birmingham. Its main facility in Atlanta also serves as the company's corporate headquarters. Stevens Graphics provides livelihoods for approximately 570 employees. The company produces more than 550 titles and over 65 million directories annually, totaling in excess of 65 billion printed pages. The four-over-four Mitsubishi Tandem Perfector prints two-sided work at 13,000 sheets per hour without reversing the sheet. In addition to coating capabilities, the Stevens Graphics press incorporates automated plate changing, Mitsubishi's DiamondLink III automated control system and a spectrophotometer-based closed-loop color control system.
