Komori America Inks Deal At Graph Expo For First System 38S Web Press In NA

(October 26, 2004 Rolling Meadows, IL) Prodigy Graphics Group, Brampton, ON, signed a purchase agreement for the first North American installation of the Komori System 38S web press. The System 38S, a full size, 16-page web press, made its exhibition debut at Drupa 04. Stephan Carter, President and COO of Komori America said, “We are very pleased that Prodigy Graphics Group will be the home to the first System 38S in North America. The System 38 received high acclaim at Drupa and we are confident that this will be the first of many installations in North America.” Prodigy’s version of the System 38S is a four unit press that features a 23 9/16” cut-off, and is expected to deliver in 2005. Steve Ranson, VP of Sales for K-North, Komori’s Mississauga, ON based dealership said, “We’re excited to place the first System 38S in Canada. Prodigy is a very successful printing plant, and the new web press will be a great addition to their operation.” The System 38S provides the world’s shortest changeover time through fully automated one-step register adjustment, color matching, fold adjustment and plate changing. Komori’s new KHS-AI with Advanced Intelligence has self-learning software that further reduces job changeover time, costs and workload. The JDF compliant System 38S runs at speeds of 60,000-iph, and has a new folder that handles a variety of products, including direct mail, advertising material, and magazines. Prodigy Graphics Group was founded in 1976 and is housed in a 150,000 sq. ft. facility close to Toronto International Airport. Prodigy has grown from a small duplicator shop to a full service printing facility with 100 employees and over 60 offset printing units. They provide their customers services from prepress through fulfillment. The System 38S will be Prodigy’s first web press. K-North, Mississauga, ON has represented Komori products in Ontario and Western Canada since 2003.
