DALLAS, Oct. 25, 2004 - Xerox Corporation is continuing its leadership in electronic document management and helping data centers, print shops and service bureaus better meet customer demands in the changing landscape of the digital age.  With a strong presence at this year's annual Xplor International conference, Xerox was honored with the Founder's Award, delivered a keynote address to the Joint Technology Council, and shared best practices by hosting more than a dozen educational sessions. Quincy Allen, president of the Xerox Production Systems Group, accepted the Founder's Award yesterday at the opening ceremonies of Xplor 2004.  Xplor International is a worldwide, not-for-profit professional association that consists of thousands of users and suppliers of the products and services that create, modify, and deliver customized information using a wide variety of document technologies.  Xerox is being recognized as the founder of the organization, sinceXplor initially began as a Xerox user group 25 years ago.  Over the years, Xerox has continued its involvement in Xplor by offering its expertise and innovative guidance and participating in the association's educational efforts with the printing industry. Getting Workflow Right In a speech at the Xplor Joint Technology Council Executive Forum today, Mike Kucharski, vice president and general manager, Xerox Workflow Business Team, shared the company's vision on what it takes to stay competitive in a printing industry where customers are requiring communications services, not just print services. Kucharski outlined the "New Business of Printing" as one in which customers want faster turnarounds, shorter run lengths, personalized color documents, secure Web sites for placing orders, split paper and electronic output, and a host of other digital services.  And, workflow is a key component to helping address these customer requirements. Workflow software helps print providers streamline job ordering and management, reduce manual steps, and automate error-prone parts of the printing process. "Getting workflow right is today's critical strategic imperative,"said Kucharski.  "Workflow is emerging as the real key to developing the flexibility for responding effectively and efficiently to customer demand." Industry Expertise, Years of Experience In addition to Kucharski's address to the JTC, Xerox executives willhost other speaking sessions during the conference, including "Aligning Your Document Systems Architecture with Corporate Business Strategies," "Output Management to Workflow: Hype or Reality," "How to Develop a Savvy Office Output Environment," and "A Year's Work in 28 Days!" Further Xerox involvement at Xplor spans two key sponsorships: · Electronic Document Systems Foundation 2004 Excellence in Education Awards. A nonprofit organization dedicated to the document communications industry, EDSF presents these awards annually to honor worldwide academic institutions and professional organizations that have demonstrated dedication and creativity in addressing industry issues reflecting state-of-the-art technology.  Xerox is sponsoring the Innovation in Higher Education award and presenting it at Xplor. · Gartner's "Strategies for Smart Office Document Management," a full-day program that provides attendees with the knowledge and best practices know-how to realize their business goals.  Along with a number of sessions hosted by Gartner analysts, the program agenda includes a vendor panel in which Ashby Lowry, vice president, Xerox Office Services, will provide insight on how to optimize the office's IT infrastructure in order to drive efficiency, improve worker productivity and minimize costs. In booth No. 575, Xerox is demonstrating the latest technologies inblack-and-white and highlight color digital printing.  Printing at 100 and 120 ppm respectively, the Xerox Nuvera(tm) 100 and120 Digital Production Systems bring the digital advantages of fast turnarounds, economical short runs, personalized printing and outstanding image quality to publishing, transaction and in-plant printing operations.  Nearly twice as fast as the previous Xerox speed benchmark of 92 ppm, the Xerox 180 Highlight Color system is one of three Xerox highlight color printers designed for transaction and publishing applications, such as newsletters and reports, as well as invoices and statements that use data from transactional databases.  The three products - running at speeds of 128 ppm, 155 ppm and 180 ppm respectively - deliver benchmark speed, reliability and image quality for highlight color printing.
