Press release from the issuing company

October 11th, 2004 - Following the acquisition of Heidelberg Web Systems, Goss International has expanded its product portfolio to include solutions for the mailroom. With a focus on flexible, reliable and cost-effective product handling, Goss now offers a complete range of newspaper finishing equipment, including conveyors, inserting systems and packaging solutions. According to David Stamp, Worldwide Marketing Director, “The need to compete more effectively with alternative media means that newspapers need to deliver news and advertising content more efficiently. The expansion of the Goss product portfolio into the mailroom provides new opportunities for productivity and flexibility to the entire newspaper production process, as well as enhanced targeting capabilities.” The new product portfolio includes: Copy conveying NP 200 - gripper conveyer system able to transport up to 80,000 newspapers per hour with single-copy control, allowing flexible routing to inserters, stackers or storage areas. Belt Veyor – specifically developed with economy in mind this lapped-stream belt conveyor is a reliable, flexible and cost-effective way to transport broadsheet or tabloid newspaper products from the press to any postpress application. Collating/Inserting Magnapak - a shaftless newspaper packaging system that is ideal for managing escalating insert volumes and targeting specific readers. It is the only system to successively and simultaneously insert, collate and wrap at 30,000 copies per delivery. NP 630 - a straight-line inserter that can be expanded in line with customer growth. The NP630 inserter automates the placement of up to 20 inserts into a single newspaper jacket while providing single-copy control up to 25,000 inserted packages per delivery. NP 2299 - featuring a unique circular design, this inserter maximizes available floor space. It is characterized by outstanding flexibility and simple operation, with the option of one, two, three or four deliveries. Stacking Olympian - delivers superior performance and productivity while requiring minimal maintenance. It easily handles broadsheet or tabloid products at 80,000 copies per hour, exactly counting and neatly stacking compensated bundles to desired heights. Wrapping Eclipse - a reliable and easy to use bundle wrapper, designed for years of trouble-free production. Its ability to operate at high speeds reduces bottlenecks at the delivery end of the packaging center. The Eclipse wrapper is able to handle a wide variety of bundle shapes and sizes, and is ideally suited for close-coupled stacker operations or downstream placement in tie lines. Workflow Omnizone - the innovative control system that integrates Goss’ postpress components with the press and products from other suppliers. It provides comprehensive workflow, job planning and management information capabilities. David Stamp concludes, ”As newspapers improve their products, with better printing and more targeted content, what happens in the mailroom becomes increasingly important. We are pleased to now be able to offer this complete range of finishing solutions, enabling us to add an even greater value to our customers’ production by controlling all processes from reelstand to delivery, accurately and efficiently.”
