Chicago IL, US, October 10, 2004: At Graph Expo Global Graphics, developers of technology for open document and print solutions, is previewing the latest version of its JDF Enabler for the Harlequin RIP exchanging JDF files within a live workflow in the CIP4 JDF Pavilion. Version 2.0 of the JDF Enabler, new since drupa, provides JDF support for the Harlequin RIP; TrapPro in-RIP trapping; ColorPro in-RIP color management; and the Harlequin Screening Library. JDF Enabler v2.0 introduces full compatibility with the latest JDF 1.2 specification to further improve functionality and ease of integration, allowing OEMs to bring their JDF-compatible products to market more easily. Key enhancements within JDF Enabler v2.0 include: greatly expanded color correction and color space conversion features; enhanced proofing, including the ability to combine pre-separated files for proofing applications; and support for TIFF files. “Our JDF Enabler module allows OEMs and System Integrators to build JDF-enabled workflow solutions around the RIP and incorporate the Harlequin RIP into JDF-based applications, “ says Martin Bailey, Global Graphics senior technical consultant and CEO of CIP4. “JDF Enabler Version 2.0 incorporates the refinements we have introduced as a result of working closely with our OEMs since drupa to make it easier for them to build a complete prepress workflow system and to make these systems more powerful. Our solution is flexible and enables our customers to bring their JDF-compliant solutions to market very quickly and without the need to write additional controller interfaces. “Equally, our JDF Enabler meets the needs of those looking to improve efficiency by adopting ad hoc JDF workflows including those where imposition software is used as the ‘control panel’ for the workflow.“ Live JDF interactions and a workflow scenario Demonstrating Global Graphics’ commitment to completely open solutions, the JDF-enabled Harlequin RIP, featuring the JDF Enabler v.2.0, will be shown exchanging JDF data live with other leading vendors’ systems in an automated workflow within the CIP4 JDF Pavilion, specifically with: Imposition - Dynagram DynaStrip and Creo Preps; Job Management - DALiM MiSTRAL, and Agfa :Delano; and, Delivery – Vio. Visitors who have signed up for JDF tours within the Pavilion will also see a live scenario chosen to demonstrate how a publication (Careful Investors Monthly) uses certified delivery to link its editorial workflows to its printers’ MIS and production systems for automatic delivery of impositions to the printers’ remote plate-setting site. This demonstration shows a job being submitted from EFI Hagen (MIS) to DALiM MiSTRAL (publication production management) through to Vio (managed transmission between sites), and on to the Harlequin RIP (remote plate-setting site). High performance RIP technology The Harlequin RIP is recognised as the standard for high-performance RIP technology and forms the core of many industry leading proofing, imaging, direct-to-print and digital print workflows worldwide. Global Graphics was the first company to demonstrate that JDF can be used to control individual components in a workflow earlier this year at drupa. In addition to providing JDF support for TrapPro in-RIP trapping, ColorPro in-RIP color management and the Harlequin Sceening Library, JDF can also be used to control JDF processes such as interpretation, in-RIP imposition, rendering, separation, contone calibration, within a JDF-based production workflow. JDF support extends to JMF for easier integration with management systems, including functionality to interoperate with Management Information Systems (MIS). With the JDF Enabler Module the Harlequin RIP uses process control information inside a JDF file to drive the output procedure according to specific production data. Settings such as page size, screening, trapping, imposition, calibration and color management can be included in the job file and processed at the RIP. Interoperability has been validated with numerous products and solutions from vendors throughout the industry including: Dynagram Dynastrip, Creo Preps, One Vision Speedflow Impose (in development) DALiM MiSTRAL, Agfa:Delano, Ppi PrintNet MIS, ACSL OPtimus MIS. The JDF Enabler v.2.0 will be delivered as an option for the next release of the Harlequin RIP. The core technology will also made available to Global Graphics partners as part of the Cortex Platform, Global Graphics’ family of technologies for building digital workflows.
