Xerox iGen3 Customers Reach Print Volume Milestones

Press release from the issuing company

CHICAGO--Oct. 11, 2004-- Xerox Corporation today announced at the Graph Expo printing exhibition over 30 production printing customers have printed 1 million pages or more on a single Xerox iGen3 Digital Production Press in one month--creating literally thousands of full-color books, personalized marketing brochures, posters and other applications. Xerox also announced iGen3 enhancements resulting in improved productivity, service, and new revenue-generating opportunities. "Steadily increasing print volumes reflect what our customers are telling us about the benefits of the Xerox iGen3 press--it delivers more revenue, expands their offerings and brings in new jobs," said Fred DeBolt, vice president of color product systems, Xerox Production Systems Group. "By adding new capabilities and expanding support services, we continue to help iGen3 customers realize the full potential of this breakthrough digital technology." Customer Milestones Four customers--United Kingdom-based DSI Group; Direct Mail Express (DME), Daytona Beach, Fla.; QuantumMail.com Inc., Austin, Texas; and RGC Communications, Roselle, Ill., --have printed more than 2 million pages in a single month on multiple iGen3 presses. "The Xerox iGen3 press is giving us a great return on our investment and delivering on its promise of high color-image quality, greater print volume and new revenue opportunities," said Fraser Church, business development director, DSI Group. "There's also nothing like it on the market when it comes to variable--or personalized-- printing, where we are doing incredible projects that wouldn't have been possible before, such as completely personalized, practical and more effective travel booklets that contain customer's tickets, agendas and other travel information." Center Supports Customer Needs As part of its drive to expand customer support and provide value-added services, Xerox has created a 24/7, state-of-the-art "command center" that processes real-time, in-depth information on virtually every installed iGen3 press across North America. Based in Henrietta, N.Y., the center is equipped with a technical hotline that receives data from numerous sources, including the digital presses themselves, sales and service representatives, field analysts and customers. The center is capable of examining press performance at each customer location, solving emerging problems, and providing support for preventive maintenance. For example, by looking at data compiled by the center, Xerox support specialists can recognize that a customer's fuser settings aren't optimal for the type of paper being used, resulting in poor image quality. To prevent this from occurring, the center can send a field specialist to intervene and correct the setting before the job is run, saving the customer valuable time and money. The center will also be used to support the Xerox Nuvera(TM) Digital Production System and future color and monochrome production devices. Strengthening iGen3 Productivity and Functionality Two new optional feeder modules extend the paper capacity for the iGen3 press to include a total of 12 trays, or 30,000 sheets of 80 lb. coated text paper. The additional trays feed paper directly into the system, allowing customers to run complex jobs with different paper stocks in a more efficient manner. A new DocuSheeter iG roll-feed system, developed jointly with Roll Systems Inc., of Burlington, Mass., can feed up to 50,000 sheets of paper per roll for continuous printing. It is connected to a feeder module and can be switched between roll and cut-sheet paper, depending on job requirements. The system allows for multiple shifts of continuous operation, reducing the need for operator attention and increasing productivity and cost savings. The roll-feed capability is designed for customers who run long jobs with one type of paper or many short-run jobs where one paper is used for most pages. The latest addition to the finishing capabilities for the iGen3 press is the Crease and Bleed Trim Module for the SquareFold Booklet Maker. Directly connected to the iGen3 press, it automatically creases coated papers to produce a sharper, cleaner fold. It also adds side trimming for full bleed (printing to the edge of a sheet) color booklets at the rated speed of the Xerox iGen3 press of up to 100 pages per minute. Pricing and Availability The optional feeder modules are available immediately in North America and Europe. The suggested U.S. list price for the feeder modules is $35,000. The DocuSheeter iG will be available in November 2004 in North America and in early 2005 in Europe. The DocuSheeter IG can be bundled with a Xerox iGen3 press for an additional U.S. list price of $85,000. The Crease and Bleed Trim Module for the SquareFold Booklet Maker will be available first quarter 2005 worldwide with U.S. pricing targeted at $40,000.
