Triple Goss Universal 50 press order for The Star Malaysia

Press release from the issuing company

October 5th, 2004 – Goss International has today announced that it has taken an order from The Star Malaysia consisting of three identical shaftless Goss Universal 50 newspaper press systems. Following the success of the three Goss Colorliner 80 presses installed in 2001, The Star Malaysia now plans to increase its printing capability still further with three of the latest generation Goss Universal presses. Two of the new presses will be located at the Star Media Hub in Shah Alam and the other will be located at the Star Northern Hub in Penang. Ng Yew Choy, Senior Manager of Technical Services and Printing at Star Publications commented, “The Goss Universal 50 presses will provide us with 100% color capability at our plants in Shah Alam and Penang. Printing the country’s most widely read English daily, our position as a major player in the Malaysian newspaper market is undeniable. We must remain at the forefront of technology to continue as a market leader.” Investing at the same time in Goss’ unique Digital Inking Systems, The Star Malaysia will be the first installation in the world to install digital inking on the Goss Universal 50 press. The accuracy of preset and running ink density control makes the digital inking system an extremely high value-added technology. The press at Shah Alam will be configured as two separate press lines each consisting of nine four-high Universal tower units, nine reelstands and a 1:3:3 jaw folder and will replace two ageing Harris presses which have been in operation for some 20 years. The press at Penang will be a mirror image of the two in Shah Alam to ensure compatibility between the two facilities and to serve the Northern region. Peter Kirwan, Goss Vice President of Sales, Asia Pacific comments, “The relationship between Goss International and The Star is an extremely strong one at all levels. This is a real win-win partnership and the success of The Star in the Malaysian market place is testimony to this. The Star run the recently installed Goss Colorliner presses at optimum levels in order to meet its growing requirements with a highly skilled group of printers and technicians who are second to none. The Goss Universal 50 press system was selected for its ability to provide flexibility and high quality for preprints and specialty products.” Ng Yew Choy concludes, “Goss International has built up a reputation for producing ‘work horse’ products. The experience we have gained on our Goss Colorliner presses with Goss’ digital inking systems and shaftless press drives have prompted us to purchase the new presses with the same features.”
