Press release from the issuing company

VALHALLA, N.Y. (August 2004) – Larry Warter, an ardent advocate for standards development in the graphic arts industry, has been awarded The Roland Zavada Standards Award (known as “The Rollie”) from the Committee for Graphic Arts Technologies Standards (CGATS). Presented annually, The Rollie recognizes the significant contribution of an individual toward the development of U.S. graphic arts standards through active participation in standards activities. Warter, who is director of new business development for Enovation Graphic Systems, Inc., is also the company’s representative to all graphic arts standards efforts around the world, including ICC, CIP4, SNAP, SWOP and GRACoL. Warter has devoted a career of more than 30 years to sales, marketing, technical and research work in graphic communications, specializing in developing new markets and product applications. He was honored with this year’s Roland Zavada Standards Award “for his leadership and his unswerving commitment to standards development and promotion of the graphic communications industry, and his contribution to both CGATS and the International Organization for Standardization.” Through his involvement in standards-making activities, Water has helped identify areas where standards are needed, promoted the development of standards, encouraged users to maintain an active role in writing standards and coordinated efforts between various standards organizations. Standards are crucial in the industry because, according to CGATS, they reflect the industry’s consensus on practices, procedures and processes as well as reflect the industry’s commitment to quality goods, enable products to be acceptable worldwide and help maintain print’s competitive position as a communication medium. The award is named for Roland Zavada, who worked tirelessly both behind the scenes and in pubic forums to being the industry together behind the effort of establishing standards. Zavada retired after a career of 40 years. Warter has carried on in that same tradition and, during his career in the graphic arts industry, Warter has been an active member and/or chairman of many associations, including GATF, WOA, GCA, R&E Council, NAPL, IPA, SWOP, GRACoL, SNAP, TAGA GAMIS, CIP4, CGATS, ISO, PGSF, EPS and ICC.
