Press release from the issuing company

Minneapolis, MN (January 8, 2004) -- In response to the changing digital print market, both KBA North America and KBA Australasia will now include ORIS Works, CGS Publishing Technologies International’s hotfolder-based workflow system, as a digital front end to their highly-acclaimed 74 Karat digital offset press. The new workflow will provide support for multiple file formats, as well as full prepress functionality. The first installation, at iPrint Corporate in Melbourne, Australia, was a resounding success. iPrint Corporate is a joint venture print management enterprise between Australia Post and renowned premedia house Wellcom Pty Ltd. A second 74 Karat with ORIS Works will be installed at iPrint Corporate’s Sydney facility by February 2004. These presses will be used both for Australia Post’s internal printing requirements, including short-run stamps, and for Post’s customer needs. Other 74 Karatinstallationsusing ORIS Works are scheduled for early 2004, in both Australia andthe US. According to KBA North America’s spokesman Thomas Göcke, “This new alliance allows us to be able to offer a new powerful, flexible and affordable workflow system to our customers. Based on industry standards, this non-proprietary solution will effectively handle all digital content. On the other hand, it is flexible enough to adapt to our customers’ needs quickly, if needed.” David Lewis of KBA Australasia added, “We have been extremely impressed with the capabilities and especially the flexibility of the CGS workflow. We also value the backup of the local CGS technical specialists in Australia who have already shown their commitment to fully supporting both KBA Australasia and our customers.” “Obviously, we are pleased that KBA selected ORIS Works, which is a perfect complement to their outstanding 74 Karat press,” said CGS president Trevor Haworth. “Works is a complete, and extremely versatile front end for digital printing, but it’s also very affordable.” ORIS Works is a complete prepress workflow system, supporting all major file formats, including PDF/X, TIFF/IT, DCS, Scitex and many more. Network-enabled hotfolders receive and process files automatically, performing such tasks as preflight checking, format conversion, trapping and imposition. The 74 Karat workflow package can also include ORIS PDF Tuner, for late-stage editing and correction of jobs submitted as PostScript or PDF. Inkjet proofing, using CGS’ award-winning ORIS Color Tuner, will be also available as an option to 74 Karat users. The 74 Karat press is an all-digital sheetfed offset device, supporting a page size of up to 20.5 x 29 inches (520 x 740mm) and a huge variety of stocks, from onion skin paper up to cardboard. It is ideally suited to cost efficient, high-quality, short-to-medium run color printing, and has been widely recognized for its innovative combination of digital technology with conventional print techniques.
