Fujifilm Introduces Link-o-lator for FINALPROOF

Press release from the issuing company

HANOVER PARK, Ill. (December 12, 2003) – For ICC-savvy users of Fujifilm’s FINALPROOF, there is now a new software utility that will allow them to integrate their own ICC profiles and better control the color matching for the Fujifilm FINALPROOF digital contract proofer. Link-o-lator v 2.0 is the newest member of Fujifilm’s ColorPath family and Fujifilm has partnered with Left Dakota, a software developer, to distribute a new software utility to allow ICC profiles made and edited with the Fujifilm ColourKit Profiler application to work with FINALPROOF. By using Left Dakota’s Link-o-lator v 2.0 software, users can greatly enhance their control of color-matching the FINALPROOF to target conditions. “One of the problems with ICC-based color management is that anything that is black only turns into CMYK,” explains Eric Magnusson, president of Left Dakota. “But, if you use an ICC link instead, you can preserve certain colors and achieve a closer representation of what you’ll see coming off the press.” Because Link-o-lator was developed with the high-end digital dot proofer in mind, it respects many of the unique requirements of that technology, including: • preservation of pure contaminate-free cyan, magenta and yellow. • preservation of black-only text, blends and drop shadows. • preservation of special colors such as registration black. • achievement of more consistent results, regardless of platform. • building of black point compensation directly into the link. • scaling of the luminance of any pure color channels. “Link-o-lator will allow ICC-savvy users a way to take advantage of industry standard ICC profiles with the FINALPROOF,” says Eric Neumann, product development manager for color management products at Enovation Graphic Systems. “Customers can now use their favorite ICC profile making and editing applications in conjunction with Link-o-lator to create customized device link profiles that are accepted by FINALPROOF interfaces Proof Manager and Proof Director Pro.” Link-o-lator v 2.0 runs on a Macintosh G4 (OS9, OS9- Classic and OSX) and is ColorPath-qualified. Fujifilm’s ColorPath is a family of products, services and support designed to help measure, monitor and manage color quality throughout the entire printing process. With the use of these tools, color accuracy in a digital color workflow becomes a reality. To download a free demo version of Link-o-lator v 2.0, visit http://www.leftdakota.com/linkolator.shtml.
