Goss Customers win at PANPA Conference

December 9th 2003 – The highly prestigious Norske Skog Newspaper of the Year Awards dinner in Australia recently proved to be a great success for Goss press users. Held on the final night of the 2003 PANPA Annual Conference, the awards recognised technical excellence in newspapers in the Pacific region. Judged on registration, dot gain, color and black density, cut-off accuracy, fold, pin marks and tears and ink set-offs, Goss users achieved two first places, two ‘highly commended’ distinctions and one ‘finalist’ position out of six categories. The award for technical excellence ‘Printed on a Single-Width Press (Up to Four Webs)’ went to The Border Mail, using a Goss Urbanite press. In conveying the award, the judges stated that: “The Border Mail continues to push the barriers on innovation and creativity with poster front pagers, revamped section and great use of color. This has been rewarded with 1300 extra sales per issue, year on year.” The Gisborne Herald, using a Goss Community press was also highly commended for this award. The award for technical excellence ’Printed on Single-Width Press (More than Four Webs)’ went to the Packenham-Berwick Gazette, also using a Goss Community press. “The Packenham scored great points in the attention to detail in the press room, keeping a very high standard in color reproduction,” commented the judges. World Newspaper Press Systems Highly commended in this category was the Geraldton Guardian, likewise, a Goss Community user. In addition, Finalist for the technical excellence for ‘Pre-print/Supplement Printed on a Single Width Press was The Ipswich Advertiser, using a Goss Universal press.
