Flottman Co. Installs Six-Color Heidelberg Speedmaster 74

Press release from the issuing company

KENNESAW, Ga., July 22, 2004 – Heidelberg USA today announced the installation of a Speedmaster SM 74, six-color, 20.5x29.5” convertible perfecting press with coating tower at Flottman Co., a mid-size commercial and pharmaceutical printer located in Crestview Hills, Ky. Flottman, which has an all-Heidelberg pressroom, said the new Speedmaster SM 74 represents a move to increase its commercial capacity from four colors to six, in line with growing customer demand. The Speedmaster SM 74, equipped with Heidelberg’s AlColor Continuous Dampening and DryStar IR drying system, enables the company to offer six colors in a single pass. According to company President Sue Flottman Steller, the new press has given the company 22 percent more capacity by virtue of the larger sheet size alone. However, she said, “The biggest advantage we see is not just additional capacity, but the fact that this press enables us to print six color work with an aqueous coating on the larger press sheet.” The company promotes its additional capacity by print advertising, trade marts and conventions, and referrals/networking. Its first-rate production values are on ample display in the corporate identity work, annual reports, brochures, and sales pieces it turns out for its local and national clientele, as well as in the tens of millions of inserts and outserts Flottman produces annually for the makers of more than 200 pharmaceutical products. The high-quality Speedmaster SM 74 is a part of Flottman’s long-term business strategy. Further expansion of the pressroom is planned. Services include a full in-house art/prepress department offering desktop publishing, computer to plate, and digital proofing. The press room houses small-format, one- and two-color printing, as well as 20.5 x 29.5 six-color and 28 x 40 large-format printing. The bindery hosts commercial and miniature folding equipment along with die cutting capabilities. “We try to do as much as possible in house to assure the quality we want to deliver to the customer,” said Steller. Heidelberg’s extensively automated Speedmaster SM 74, which is available in a wide range of models from two-color to 10-color presses, provides the flexibility and productivity required by companies, like Flottman, that are on the fast track to growth. Depending on configuration, the SM 74 can produce both short and long runs profitably, thanks to Heidelberg’s One-Pass Productivity with perfecting technology. Other key featuress of the press include: • New feeder with central suction tape and pneumatic side guides • Alcolor Continuous Dampening system with Vario option for removing hickeys • Inking and presetting of ink zones via Prinect CP2000 Center • Automatic inking roller washup • Register-true sheet transport and monitored sheet transfer • Program-controlled blanket and impression cylinder washup • AutoPlate automated plate changing • Prinect Auto Register • High-pile delivery with Venturi sheet guidance • Extended delivery and DryStar dryers • Coating system with easy changing between two-roller system and optional chamber doctor blade • Heidelberg Speedmaster presses can be flexibly equipped for a wide range of special applications In addition to the SM 74, Flottman’s pressroom contains a Heidelberg 102 ZP 28x40” two-color perfector, a SORKZ 19x25” two-color offset press and a 12x18” two-color Quickmaster 46. Heidelberg, a trusted supplier to Flottman Co. for more than 35 years, matches Flottman’s focus on personal attention, superior production values, consistency and quality control measure for measure. “Quality is the key to trust,” Steller says. Whether technical problems can be resolved by telephone or require an on-site service call, she praises Heidelberg’s commitment to training and customer support after the sale. “Quality reflects a lot of things,” Steller said, “but to us, it boils down to putting our best foot forward all the time. Whether it’s in the equipment we buy or the work we do, we will always choose and do what’s best for our customers.”
