Greensheet grows with Goss Magnum press order

Press release from the issuing company

July 28th, 2004 – With a large order for 20 Goss Magnum high speed printing units, plus two folders, Texas based publisher Greensheet plans to continue its successful growth path. Scheduled for spring 2005 installation into a new multi-purpose facility at Greensheet headquarters in Houston, the press will reduce production times by more than 50 percent. The Greensheet plant in Houston currently runs an aging Harris V15D press five days a week printing 750,000 – 800,000 copies a week of its free advertising tabloid of the same name. According to Ted Stiles, Director of Operations in Houston, 12 different editions are distributed weekly in Houston alone, each with an average of 72 pages per edition and a print run of 60,000 copies. Using the current equipment, the frequent edition changes consume an enormous amount of available press time. “Set-up time is killing me!” says Ted Stiles. “We need to be getting good quality color sooner and printing much faster. Each edition currently takes around three hours to print. The new Magnum will do it in less than half that time and, with its automated registration controls, we will be producing satisfactory copies much, much sooner.” The new press equipment will be configured as two four-high towers and six two-high towers and is capable of running up to 12 webs through its new Goss Universal folder. An additional SSC folder has also been ordered to provide maximum pagination flexibility. The Goss press controls and the automatic registration controls specified for the press enable fast job changes and color accuracy, as well as reducing start-up waste. In addition, the 22” cutoff of the Magnum press – a reduction of 3/4 inch on the current press – will also save considerable paper tonnage with no change required to the existing Greensheet tabloid format. “The new press will give us more than double the capacity for color placement, which is great news for our advertisers, and with the reduced production times, we will also have ample opportunity for taking on more commercial print jobs,” Stiles explains. “This business is all about being dynamic, identifying opportunities and moving with the times – the Magnum press will enable us to do all that, while improving existing operational efficiencies and eliminating unnecessary expenses. “Goss has been the perfect partner in the whole decision process, through their product knowledge, patience and honesty – even leaving us alone with existing customers so we could get the real story! I have every confidence in their integrity and support for the future.” Commenting on the order, Goss Regional Sales Manager, Sam Pernice said: “A company like Greensheet is successful for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is their meticulous and professional approach in choosing their business partners. Their selection of the Goss Magnum press is the culmination of almost four years of careful planning and due diligence. While we realize that there are other vendors from which to choose, we are honored that Greensheet has chosen to place their confidence and trust in our hands.” Pernice continued “Coming on the heels of the very large Magnum press purchased by The Gallup Independent, we are especially gratified to see the continuing strength and popularity of the Goss Magnum press series.” Greensheet has been bringing “buyers and sellers together” since 1970 and is now one of the top classified directories in Texas. With an annual turnover of around $30 million, it has made its reputation by providing a reliable and consumer-friendly platform for people to buy and sell. The company has home-state operations in Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth and Austin as well as a new facility in Phoenix, Arizona. Committed to serving the local community, Greensheet also runs The Greensheet Education Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing curriculum and supporting Texas communities as a free educational resource. To date, Greensheet has invested almost five million dollars in high quality programs and publications to promote literacy and support education in Texas.
