Press release from the issuing company

FOSTER CITY, Calif.--July 12, 2004-- EFI, the world leader in digital imaging and print management solutions for commercial and enterprise printing, today announced its new highly scalable and versatile client/server based proofing solution, EFI Colorproof(TM) XF. The result of EFI's development knowledge and resources, combined with the proofing expertise behind Best(TM) technology, the entirely new platform offers improved functionality, stability and performance with cross Windows and Mac OS X platform support and compatibility with the current JDF (Job Definition Format) standard for open job ticketing. It is an ideal solution for commercial printers of all sizes, from newspaper publishers to creative agencies and photographers. "EFI Colorproof XF represents a new era of EFI proofing solutions. With tremendous technical advancements across all areas of the product from the client/server architecture to greater functionality options, combined with the new, intuitive user interface that gives a completely new 'look and feel' to the product, Colorproof XF is one of the most innovative and cutting edge products to hit the digital color proofing market today," said Thorsten Breiding, VP & GM of EFI Proofing Solutions. EFI Colorproof XF consists of several different components that can be joined together in different combinations to create basic or extended configurations. This offers complete flexibility to the end-user, allowing the customer to personalize each solution to suit his own proofing requirements, and add more functionality as needs expand. "The value of the new EFI Colorproof XF is in the flexibility that it offers the customer," added Breiding. "The variety of component and output options means that each individual client can find a tailored solution that fits their exact proofing requirements." For individual users, the Client Option solution provides the user interface and administrator panel to the server. It is available for Windows and Macintosh workstations, offering a complete platform-independent and fully customizable solution. As with the other EFI proofing products, EFI Colorproof XF is capable of creating and reading the EFI Remoteproof(TM) JDF Specification, enabling the verification of a proof in multiple sites. At the heart of the new solution sits the EFI Colorproof XF Server, which in a basic configuration, comes with the Client Option and a Printer Option M, driving inkjet and laser printers up to A2 format. In addition to these basic modules, the customer can choose from a variety of different product and output options that can be added on as required. Product options include the EFI Color Manager Option for creating paper and reference profiles; the Color Verifier Option for validating color accuracy against industry measuring standards; the EFI Dot Creator Option enabling rasterization of contone data for output on DOD inkjet printers; the EFI OneBit Option enabling the creation of ICC-based color-accurate contract screen proofs on DOD inkjet printers; and the EFI Spot Color Option enabling the processing and color-accurate printing of any kind of supported file formats that contain spot colors. EFI Photo and EFI Production options as well as the EFI Ink Zone Option, an automated ink key presetting application, will follow later this year. Additional output options can be purchased for printer sizes M, XL and XXL, in addition to a File Export option. EFI Colorproof XF offers a multi-output functionality, allowing the user to print to more than one printer at the same time. Colorproof XF can also be used in conjunction with EFI OneFlow(TM) 2.0 prepress workflow software to create a complete solution within a print shop or production facility. Availability EFI Colorproof XF will be available through certified EFI dealers and distributors in Q3 2004. The new platform will support a wider variety of printers, including the Epson Stylus Pro 4000, the HP Designjet 30 and 130, and the Canon imagePROGRAF W6200. It will run on Windows 2000, 2003 and XP. A Macintosh version of EFI Colorproof XF Server, running on Mac OS X Server, is scheduled for later this year.
