EFI Logic Management System to Integrate with Equipment Manufacturers via CIP4 JDF Initiative

Press release from the issuing company

Las Vegas, Nevada – June 28, 2004 – EFI, the world leader in digital imaging and print management solutions for commercial and enterprise printing, today announced its powerful EFI Logic print management information solution (MIS) will be interoperable later this year with leading manufacturers through an EFI JDF Connector. These connections will be demonstrated for the first time at the fifth annual Connect users’ conference taking place through Wednesday at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. EFI, in collaboration with CIP4, is promoting JDF as the open industry standard for electronic job ticketing that enables interoperability across the printing process. Through the JDF Connector, EFI’s Logic MIS software will enable seamless bi-directional communication between various industry solutions, enabling automated machine set-up and shop floor data retrieval that will increase productivity and cost-effectiveness of print shop management. EFI is currently working with Komori, MAN Roland and other leading vendors to test and finalize Logic connectivity. When this connectivity is available for general release, Logic software will help print businesses collect, share, analyze and respond to information in real time. “The goal of Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) is to close costly gaps between individual steps of the printing process”, said JD Bagnell, EFI Product Manager, Integration. “The JDF connectors are a vital component of a true CIM solution where information is shared, in real-time, between production and management processes enabling more accurate, effective and profitable process development and control. These efforts demonstrate the success of the JDF specification and the ICS efforts within CIP4. JDF is ready to use today.” EFI Logic combines end-to-end integration of the print production process with a powerful set of data collection tools, designed for printing operations with a mix of web, sheetfed and/or specialty processes. Logic applications cover every business function, from estimating to billing, order entry to shipping, purchasing, inventory control, finished goods, accounting and more.
