Desert Sun Goes Violet with Agfa

Press release from the issuing company

Washington, D.C. – NEXPO (Booth #2502) – June 19, 2004 – The Desert Sun (Palm Springs, CA), a Gannett Publication, is one of the largest newspapers in North America to make the switch to violet technology for its prepress system. The Desert Sun recently began using two new :Advantage DL violet CtP systems from Agfa, along with Agfa’s :Arkitex digital workflow system and :N91v plates. The Desert Sun installed the systems earlier this year and since then they have seen increased growth, speed and quality in their prepress operation. The Desert Sun has benefited from what Agfa sees as a growing trend: newspapers recognizing the value violet provides for their bottom lines and their quality. “The appeal of having a single source supplier from workflow to platesetters and plates to take full responsibility for the systems was integral to our decision in choosing Agfa. The technical support team out here is outstanding. Being able to rely on the same support service staff that can service my workflow as my :VSP85 processor was also critical to our decision to go with Agfa,” said Darrell Overturf, production manager, The Desert Sun. “The systems have given us added quality and increased our overall productivity, as well.” “The Desert Sun understood the advantage of violet, from its high quality, reliability and low cost of ownership,” said Agfa’s Sheila Nysko, business development manager, newspaper business, North America. “More and more newspapers like The Desert Sun have embraced violet as the new standard for prepress.”
