ICS wins GATF Award for contract-quality remote proofing system

Press release from the issuing company

New York, NY; July 23, 2003 – Integrated Color Solutions Inc. (ICS), a technology leader in color management solutions, has received a prestigious InterTech Technology Award from the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (GATF). The award is for the company’s Remote Director system, the first SWOP-certified, display-based contract proofing system that applies advanced color management and software technologies to ensure color-accurate proofs. ICS is one of 13 companies honored with the award, from a field of 40 nominations. The annual GATF InterTech Technology Awards honor innovative excellence in the development of technology for the graphic communications industries that is being applied. Inaugurated in 1978, the awards have proved a solid indicator of significant industry trends and a predictor that the recipient technology will have a major impact on industry production and profitability. A special awards committee comprised of industry technical experts reviews the nominations and makes the selections. “We are honored that the committee selected the ICS Remote Director system for the 2003 GATF InterTech Technology Award,” said Jeffrey Silverman, President of ICS. “Proofing is the only persistent non-digital step in the typical production process, and eliminating the need for a hard proof is a milestone for the printing industry. This prestigious award signifies that the Remote Director system can ease the transition from hard proofing to color accurate soft proofing with a cost-effective, easy to integrate solution that provides immediate cost savings in both tangible hard costs and time efficiencies created by streamlining the workflow.” The ICS Remote Director system is the first display-based proofing solution that applies proprietary color science and software technology to enable and verify the accurate, consistent viewing of color images on computer monitors in different locations all from the same source file, eliminating the need for a hard proof. In this way, participants are assured that the images they view, edit and proof on screen are color-accurate and consistent with what all other participants are viewing, regardless of location. Ensuring color-accurate viewing conditions lets users reliably maintain print jobs entirely in digital form until final output. The ICS “soft” proofing system is unique in that it uses commercially available hardware and readily available software that is easily downloaded through the Internet and can be installed by the user. The Remote Director system also uniquely supports mixed RGB and CYMK workflows, and provides for the dynamic use of International Color Consortium (ICC) profiles to let users simulate different workflows and target output devices. This high level of color accuracy enabled Remote Director to become the first display-based, off-press proofing system to be certified by SWOP Incorporated. The prestigious SWOP certification means Remote Director 2.0 can be used for contract proofs that conform to the widely recognized SWOP Specifications for Web Offset Publications. The Remote Director system can be used during all phases of the creation and printing of a job by ad agencies publications, commercial printers, color trade shops, and service bureaus alike to digitize their workflows, eliminate geographical barriers, and speed the workflow of color critical jobs. “SWOP certification makes it a leader,” said an InterTech Award judge.
