Isle of Wight County Schools Implements ExtremeZ-IP

Press release from the issuing company

July 16, 2003 (Arlington, VA) – Group Logic, developer of best-selling network workflow software products, announced today that Isle of Wight County Schools has implemented the ExtremeZ-IP product to improve the performance of its Student Information System.  Isle of Wight County Schools, a Southeastern Virginia school district that consists of eight schools and over 5,000 students, has improved both uptime and performance of their system since implementing the ExtremeZ-IP product. "We've had 99.9% uptime," says Bill McKinney, Director of Technology. "Before, it just didn't work." The continued movement toward accountability in Education has many school systems implementing more powerful Student Information Systems that are critical to daily classroom functions.  McKinney headed the technology team responsible for implementing the district's county-wide system from Pearson Education called SASI.  "We have a very large number of computers - about 3000 - throughout the district with 80% Macintosh," notes McKinney. "Our previous system was only accessed from one computer, it wasn't shared.  When we implemented SASI, we went from one person accessing the information in the office to every classroom district-wide accessing the information.  This put a real challenge on the servers," states McKinney.  "There were a lot of drop offs and missed connections. It acted like the server was not responding." After researching the options for improving performance, McKinney downloaded a trial version of Group Logic's ExtremeZ-IP product.  ""We were floored by the performance.  The difference in throughput improvement was significant. It dramatically cleaned things up."  Even with the district's recent upgrade to Windows 2000 server, ExtremeZ-IP's impact on performance has been sizeable. "I would recommend, and have recommended the product to lots of people. We're in a consortium with over 100 schools in Virginia and I highly recommend the ExtremeZ-IP product to anyone with Macintosh."
