Transcontinental Selected As One Of The Most Socially Responsible Large Companies In Canada

Press release from the issuing company

Montreal, June 6, 2002 – For the second consecutive year, Transcontinental was recognized as one of Canada’s most socially responsible companies at a gala event hosted by Corporate Knights Inc., an organization dedicated to the promotion of social responsibility, during which were unveiled the top 50 of the 100 largest companies listed on the S&P/TSX index of the Toronto Stock Exchange. Transcontinental ranked 3rd in the industrial companies category. Three research providers – Innovest Strategic Value Advisors, Sustainable Investment Group Ltd., and EthicScan Canada Ltd. – supplied data that was input into the Corporate Knights Best 50 model. This assessment of Canadian corporate social responsibility took into account community involvement, quality of employee relations, environmental practices, product safety and business practices, as well as profitability. “We are deeply honoured by this acknowledgement,” said Rémi Marcoux, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Transcontinental Inc. “The criteria upon which is based the ranking are values that are fundamental to our corporate culture.”
