Xerox Named Leading Practitioners of Knowledge Management

STAMFORD, Conn.--May 27, 2003-- Xerox Corporation has been named one of the top 12 knowledge enterprises in North America by Teleos, an independent knowledge management research company. It is the sixth year that Xerox has been has been honored by Teleos for its knowledge management practices. Citing the company's long history of championing the management of enterprise knowledge for competitive advantage, Teleos recognized Xerox in its 2003 North American Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise (MAKE) study. The company was singled out as a recognized leader in key knowledge performance dimensions -- its corporate knowledge-driven culture, its ability to maximize the value of the enterprise intellectual capital, and its creation of an environment for collaborative knowledge sharing. "Based on years of experience and study on how productive work is accomplished in the enterprise, Xerox is convinced that knowledge is the most important strategic asset of any company," said Thomas Dolan, president, Xerox Global Services. "Its effective management requires not only technology but also an understanding of how it will be used by knowledge workers. "Xerox has embraced knowledge sharing to maximize its own intellectual capital assets and transform the way work is done, locally and globally. This practical internal knowledge management (KM) experience is made available externally to customers through Xerox Global Services. Working with clients, Xerox Global Services identifies ways they can benefit from improved knowledge and work practice management, and it develops and implements tailored solutions that deliver a competitive advantage. Other companies named as winners of the 2003 North American MAKE study are Accenture, Amazon.com, American Productivity & Quality Center, Buckman Laboratories, Dell Computers, General Electric, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Microsoft, 3M, and the U.S. Navy. The organizations, founded and headquartered in North America, were selected by a panel of Fortune 500 senior executives and internationally recognized knowledge management experts. Xerox was also named to the Teleos North American MAKE list when it was inaugurated last year, and it has been one the Teleos Global MAKE enterprises every year from 1998 to 2002.
