PDF OPI Provides Productivity for Publishers Press

Press release from the issuing company

23rd July 2003 - North Canton, Ohio: - Graphic Enterprises (GEI) has today announced that Publishers Press, one of the largest publications printers in North America, has installed the company’s GUSS (Graphic Universal Sub System) PDF OPI solution. Publishers Press, one of the largest publication printers in North America, specializes in printing short- to medium-run magazines. Implementing new technology is essential in maintaining a competitive advantage.  The printer has been using a GUSS OPI solution for some years, liked the benefits GUSS provided, and was therefore pleased to work with GEI to develop a PDF OPI solution that would fit into its existing workflow. How the system works: Publishers Press accepts hi-res images and film from its customers, scans and stores them, sending low-res digital files back to its customers for pagination. This eliminates the need for hi-res digital files to be transmitted between publisher and printer saving time and transmission costs. When the completed PDF digital pages are received by Publishers Press, the GUSS PDF OPI solution automatically replaces the low-res preview files with the hi-res files prior to plate imaging. “We are delighted to have been able to solve a production problem for Publishers Press, and to strengthen our long-term relationship,” says Bob Behringer, GEI president.  “With PDF rapidly becoming the standard page format, we expect our PDF solutions to continue to gain rapid acceptance amongst printers and publishers.”
