Sun Chemical to Premiere Rotopure Gravure Laminating Inks

Press release from the issuing company

NORTHLAKE, IL – April 21, 2003 – Sun Chemical debuted two innovative gravure laminating inks at the CMM Conference and Exhibition 2003, to be held April 14-17, in Chicago, IL. RotoPureTM and RotoPureTM Ultra are high-performance, solvent-based laminating systems designed to print on a wide range of film substrates and structures. Both products utilize Sun Chemical’s proprietary polymer technologies, which eliminate the need for toluene diisocyanate (TDI) and tin-containing compounds. These components have been dropped to improve product safety in food packaging without reducing pressroom performance. Both ink systems are ideal for use in stand-up pouches and other flexible packaging applications. “We’re very excited about introducing these two new systems to the industry,” said Robert Mullen, vice president, packaging sales, Sun Chemical Ink (GPI). “Sun Chemical has always been at the forefront of printing ink technology. RotoPure and RotoPure Ultra represent Sun Chemical’s continued industry-leading response to the changing needs of the packaging industry.” Although market trials on RotoPure Ultra have only recently been completed, Sun Chemical already has received a technical achievement award for the product from the Packaging and Label Gravure Association. The PLGA recognized the Sun Chemical product for excellent print quality that balances health and environmental concerns with high performance. Developed for printing on surfaces requiring excellent adhesion and high lamination bond values, the RotoPure gravure laminating ink system features excellent print quality and low retained solvents. RotoPure inks are nitrocellulose-compatible and formulated to minimize cylinder hazing. The RotoPure Ultra line offers these same attributes, plus improved printability and superior bond strength, for use on a wider range of substrates. Both RotoPure and RotoPure Ultra offer high color strength and are designed for high-speed applications. Sun Chemical is a leading specialty chemicals company, with leadership positions in packaging, publications, coatings and pigments. It is the world’s largest producer of printing inks and performance pigments.
