IDEAlliance: New leadership, Innovator Award Announced

CLEARWATER BEACH, FLORIDA (April 10, 2003) -- IDEAlliance (formerly GCA -- Graphic Communications Association) honored individuals and announced new leadership for its initiatives in mail and newsstand distribution at its 2003 Distribution Conference, held March 23-27 at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort in Clearwater Beach, Florida. Larry Goodman of the U.S. Postal Service and Jack Widener of Newsweek were awarded the Donald A. Mumma Award. The Mumma Award is the most prestigious award presented each year to individuals who make a significant contribution over many years to advance cooperation between the U.S. Postal Service and the Mailing Industry. The Award was named after Donald A. Mumma, an executive of the Postal Service, who made great strides in promoting such a collaborative effort. IDEAlliance also presented its annual Innovator Award, which recognizes individuals and organizations whose creativity and leadership have contributed to increasing productivity and market responsiveness in the mailing industry. This year’s winners were Thomas K. Murray, Banta Corporation, for his industry leadership in the area of perfect bound BPM and machinable vs. non machinable parcels; Phil Thompson of Quad/Graphics, and Watt Bryan of RR Donnelley for their efforts for Full PostalOne! Implementation, and Rich Rousseau of Quebecor World Logistics for his work in Response Bridge/Planet Code. The Second Annual Norman W. Scharpf Association Service Award was presented for commitment and service to IDEAlliance to Michael Druce of Quebecor World Aurora and chair of the IDEAlliance Addressing/Distribution Canada Panel, for his efforts in Canada/US Postal relations. Phil Thompson of Quad/Graphics was honored for his years of service as Vice-Chair of the Mail.dat Working Group. Dave Manning of TCW/Tennessee Express was recognized for his leadership and efforts in affiliating National Magazine, Book & Film Carriers (NMBFC) with IDEAlliance. Mr. Manning currently serves as Chairman of NMBFC. The Award is named for Norman W. Scharpf, the former and longtime president of the Graphic Communications Association. Joe Lubenow, president, Lubenow & Associates, and past chair of the Addressing/Distribution Committee announced the committee's new leadership: Co-Chairs Val Scansaroli, G+J USA Publishing; and Joe Schick, Quad/Graphics. "Over the past 5 years I have been privileged to chair the IDEAlliance Addressing/Distribution Committee,"Lubenow said. "For over 30 years we have gathered annually to advance the mail distribution industry. This year we expand the work of IDEAlliance to newsstand through the affiliation of the National Magazine, Book & Film Carriers and the Newsstand Logistics Advisory Council." David Steinhardt, CEO of IDEAlliance, stated, "IDEAlliance has had a 30-year history of innovation in the distribution of magazines and catalogs. We have been instrumental in developing forward-looking and positive working relationships between the industry and the US Postal Services and as a result led to worksharing efforts with the US Postal Service. In 2003 we take new steps to advance in distribution in both mail and newsstand as we continue to respond to the needs of our members and the industry."
