CARLSBAD, Calif., April 7, 2003 -- Document Sciences Corporation, a proven leader and innovator in automating creation and delivery of enterprise business communications, announced today the release of xPression version 1.2.  The latest version of xPression adds support for BEA WebLogic 7.0, and two new Web Services that allow organizations to easily extend the content processing capabilities of their existing enterprise applications. XPression’s new Web Services, a Document Requestor and Document Distributor, allow Content Management, CRM, Portal and Business Application applications to call on xPression’s capabilities directly from within an existing workflow, to request or distribute xPression-created documents. Xpression’s J2EE component-based architecture provides universal content processing services that integrate with an organization's existing business workflows to create and deliver both real-time and high volume business communications, highly customized for each recipient. Unlike traditional document automation systems, universal content processing (UCP) services such as xPression, are architected for tight integration with existing systems, data, and workflows. xPression uses XML as a common language for data interchange coupled with Web Services that connect to an organization's existing workflow components, allowing disparate systems to communicate with one another, radically increasing efficiency of creation and delivery of business communications from sales, administration, compliance, customer service and direct marketing departments. “With the addition of BEA WebLogic support to xPression’s current support for IBM WebSphere, customers can now deploy xPression on either of the world’s leading application servers,” said Lisa Sutrick, VP of Product Planning and Development, Document Sciences Corporation.  “And the new Web Services in xPression’s open API Framework make it easy to extend the capabilities of nearly any enterprise application  including those in a .NET environment.” XPression is compatible with Windows 2000, Sun Solaris, IBM AIX, and HP/UX platforms. Support for z/OS will be added later this year. xPression is Unicode compatible and can support XML in any dialect. It integrates with industry-standard relational databases such as Oracle, DB2, and SQL Server. Xpression's Upgrade Utility allows companies currently using Document Sciences' Autograph DLS(TM) product to easily migrate their applications to the xPression environment if application server operability is desired. Supported output formats include: PDF, HTML, Postscript, AFP, Metacode, and PCL.
