Xerox Survey: Most At On Demand Believe Digital Workflow Improves Business

NEW YORK, April 8, 2003 — A Xerox Corporation survey conducted yesterday from the show floor of On Demand revealed 94 percent of those polled believe that fully integrated workflow processes will have a positive impact on a print provider’s business. Creating new applications, revenue opportunities and increasing flexibility, efficiency and customer responsiveness were selected as the leading benefits of an integrated workflow. Show goers believed workflow integration was essential, with 95 percent saying a color and black and white workflow should be integrated and 88 percent saying a digital workflow should be integrated. Xerox surveyed in-plant printers, commercial printers, quick printers, graphic arts services providers and other printing professionals attending the show to understand and validate the importance of workflow in daily print operations. Other results from the survey included: • When asked when workflow begins and ends, 64 percent of respondents believe it begins upon the creation of the document and 56 percent feel that it ends when the finished piece is distributed to its intended recipients. • When asked where they think a fully integrated workflow system is needed most, 28 percent believed in controlling business processes (ordering, billing etc.); 22 percent thought controlling print production (pre-press, ripping, finishing, printing); 11 percent said managing print operations (scheduling, job tracking, archiving, etc.); and 38 percent thought all were essential. When questioned about their current workflow solution, 26 percent work with Xerox, 24 percent use a home-grown solution, 11 percent use Creo, eight percent use IBM and six percent use EFI. One hundred and fifty people participated in yesterday’s survey, which was taken by graphic arts students from the New York City College of Technology.
