Xerox Enhances Industry-Leading DocuColor Production Presses

Press release from the issuing company

ON DEMAND 2003 Booth No. 3004 NEW YORK--April 7, 2003-- Xerox Corporation has made its industry-leading Xerox DocuColor 6060 and Xerox DocuColor 2000 Series of Digital Color Presses even more powerful and productive with enhanced finishing and controller capabilities. The enhancements are two new controller software releases -- Xerox DocuSP 3.7 and Creo Spire CXP6000 version 3.0 -- and the Horizon Color Works 2000 Booklet Maker, which bring new functionality and enhanced productivity to the DocuColor 6060, 2060 and 2045 systems. The company reported that the DocuColor 6060 and 2000 Series presses have surpassed 7,500 installs worldwide, making them the best-selling systems in their class. In 2002, Xerox regained its No. 1 U.S. marketshare position in the production color arena with 48 percent share, according to recently released figures by the independent research firm IDC. Production color reflects IDC data on high-end color systems and color copiers operating at 41 pages per minute and above. "The DocuColor 6060 and 2000 Series are the foundation of more successful printing businesses than any other digital color presses," said Frank D. Steenburgh, senior vice president, Xerox Production Color Solutions Business Unit. "The new functionality and productivity enhancements we are adding reinforce these products' competitiveness as drivers of profit and growth." DocuSP Enhances Color Functionality At On Demand 2003 - a major digital printing and publishing conference this week - Xerox will release its first upgrade of the color-capable version of its traditional Xerox monochrome printer controller, DocuSP. Controllers are workstations that process print files and drive the printer. DocuSP version 3.7 provides new capabilities and enhancements that improve performance and productivity in production-print environments. New workflow capabilities accelerate printing from CD-ROM, permit files to be viewed prior to RIP, and perform error-free calibrations to optimize output color. The user interface for selecting paper stocks is streamlined, speeding time to production of mixed-media jobs. Other new capabilities include a spot color editor, PCL6 Support and new imposition templates. Additional enhancements address variable information printing performance and color management workflow, ensuring optimized, consistent output across pages, across jobs and across printers. DocuSP 3.7 is a required, free upgrade for users of DocuSP with the DocuColor 6060, 2060 and 2045 and will be available worldwide later this quarter. DocuSP 3.7 will be available worldwide for the DocuColor iGen3 Digital Production Press and most Xerox monochrome production printers in the third quarter. Creo Spire Tightens Workflow Integration A release of the Creo Spire CXP6000 color server for the Xerox DocuColor 2000 Series and the DocuColor 6060 offers new levels of productivity and workflow integration as well as color management features. Version 3.0 of the Spire CXP6000 improves network connectivity with remote monitoring using the Spire Web Center, remote control using the Spire Remote Admin tool, and a faster TCP/IP connection for Mac users. A "rush job" feature permits urgent work to be inserted between other jobs in the processing and print stages, eliminating the need to stop and restart production. The Creo Spire CXP6000 color server Version 3.0 for the DocuColor 6060, 2060 and 2045 will be available worldwide July 1, with pricing announced closer to release. In-Line Booklet Making with ColorWorks The Horizon ColorWorks 2000 Booklet Maker is an in-line document finisher that combines bleed trimming, creasing, stitching, folding, face trimming and stacking. The new unit runs at the rated speed of the DocuColor 6060 -- 60 impressions per minute -- to produce professional quality finished documents. The built-in cover feeder/interposer enables automated integration of pre-printed color inserts or pre-collated pages. The Horizon ColorWorks 2000 is fully integrated into the DocuColor 6060 workflow via Xerox's Document Finishing Architecture, part of the overall Xerox workflow framework, which ensures complete job integrity and improves productivity. The ColorWorks 2000 Inline Booklet Maker is available worldwide at a U.S. manufacturer's suggested price of $42,400. DocuSP, the Spire CXP6000 color server and ColorWorks 2000 will be available from the Xerox direct sales force worldwide.
