Canon: New imageWARE Publishing Manager Software Adds a New Dimension to DTP

Press release from the issuing company

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y.--April 7, 2003-- Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Canon Inc. today announces a new addition to its imageWARE suite of software products that will ease the struggle many business people face in creating attractive, colorful and professional looking documents while staying within a budget. Canon's new imageWARE Publishing Manager is a user-friendly, cost-effective desktop publishing tool that allows users to merge different file types, easily manipulate and combine multiple hard-copy and digital documents, quickly edit page layouts, assign advanced finishing options to documents and print small quantity jobs in-house -- all from their desktops. imageWARE Publishing Manager will be on display at the AIIM-On Demand 2003 event in New York's Jacob Javits Convention Center, today through April 9, in Canon's booth (# 2219). "imageWARE Publishing Manager is a good example of the kinds of integrated solutions Canon is developing to redefine workflow in offices across the country," said Dennis Amorosano, director and assistant general manager, Integrated Business Systems Division for Canon U.S.A. "imageWARE Publishing Manager software is such an exciting new product because it gives office users access to the same rich set of professional publishing features typically offered by professional printers. imageWARE Publishing Manager, combined with a Canon imageRUNNER device, will empower even casual users to produce professional quality documents quickly and easily, minimizing costs associated with outsourced document publishing and printing," Amorosano added. imageWARE Publishing Manager is designed to simplify the production of documents requiring multiple inserts and content types, such as manuals, brochures, reports, and booklets. Publishing Manager imports application files, such as Microsoft Word, Excel or PowerPoint, or even hard-copy scanned images, to form a single document. Once imported, users can then re-order or edit pages more quickly and easily and either print or export the documents to PDF format for delivery via e-mail, Web browser, fax and print to end-users across a network. Once the imageWARE document is assembled, Publishing Manager enables users to add, delete, copy, cut or paste chapters or pages, add headers and footers, watermarks and text or graphic annotations. Legal and government professionals will appreciate Publishing Manager's ability to efficiently perform bates stamping by creating customized headers and footers with alphanumeric characters and date information, saving time and money by eliminating manual labor normally associated with this process. To simplify the creation of catalogs, proposals and other documents requiring variable data, imageWARE Publishing Manager also features a Variable Printing Editor that allows users to set up variable text or graphics fields included on any page of the document. These variable fields are then linked to a database allowing the data to be printed on a specific page. Publishing Manager supports the industry's most popular database formats making it easy to enhance corporate branding and customer relationship initiatives through customized direct marketing efforts. Integration Facilitates Additional Features Upon finalizing their documents, users can then easily produce their work from their desktops, taking advantage of the advanced paper handling, detailed print settings and finishing capabilities of Canon's imageRUNNER product line. As a result of the tight integration between imageRUNNER devices(1) and Publishing Manager, available finishing features supported by Publishing Manager include: simplex, duplex or booklet mode printing; stapling and subset stapling by chapter; hole punching; Z-folding; saddle stitching, and trimming. Novice and experienced users alike can also dynamically add chapter breaks, tab paper inserts, front and back covers, and then preview the changes, so they can see exactly how their documents will print with the applied settings. As a component of Canon's imageWARE Office Suite, Publishing Manager also integrates with imageWARE Document Manager for storage of digital print-ready documents. The tight integration of Publishing Manager and other Canon imageWARE applications (such as imageWARE Document Manager) with Canon's imageRUNNER devices make Canon the leading provider of complete document creation and output solutions for the small enterprise or departmental user. imageWARE Publishing Manager requires an IBM-compatible PC/AT device running Windows 98/Me/2000/XP or Windows NT4.0 (Service Pack 3, 4 or 5). Publishing Manager supports PCL 5e and 6.0 drivers and Adobe PDF file formats. Most Canon imageRUNNER products, ranging from the 20 page-per-minute (ppm) imageRUNNER 2010F through the 105-ppm imageRUNNER 105, support imageWARE Publishing Manager's dynamic publishing features.
