Nordic Printing and Packaging Benefits From Radius Solutions' MIS

Press release from the issuing company

Chicago, IL – (April 7, 2003) Nordic Printing and Packaging, Inc., a leader in commercial print, die-cutting, point-of-sale displays, promotions, custom labels and packaging, utilizes Radius Solutions, PECAS Vision software for two important reasons: The software is specifically designed for the printing and packaging industry, and the Radius Solutions Shop Floor Data Collection Module. The system Nordic would select also needed to offer two specific functionalities: the ability to streamline workflow, as well as the capability to get as much work completed on time and on budget, without adding more employees to the mix. Prior to implementing the PECAS Vision system, Nordic had to re-enter a lot of its information. According to Dee Dee Foster, Nordic CFO, whenever a job was created on the production floor, the data would have to be retyped by another person to create a job ticket (work order). This extra step provided problems with accuracy, as the information was not consistent, and caused additional delays in getting work to the shop floor. Now, the job ticket is created directly from the sales estimate without the additional step of retyping data. This process has actually forced those entering the data to be more accurate. It’s also a major time saver as information is only entered into the system once. The PECAS system also made it possible for Nordic to reduce costly overhead. Foster says, “We have totally eliminated our IT Department, because our system works so well. PECAS provides easy access to information, and even with its sophisticated Estimating feature, the over all system is still easy to learn and maintain”. Another recent improvement is Nordic’s ability to track orders. Before PECAS, Nordic was entering a sales order as a job. Now, the function is separated into two areas: Customer Placed Orders (sales order) and the Actual Building of a Product (production job). This separation allows for better tracking of when orders get placed and how Nordic chooses to build their products. In fact, Nordic has just purchased the Scheduling Module of PECAS Vision and is looking forward to capitalizing on some of the long-term benefits of PECAS. Things like improved visibility of jobs and having better control over machine requirements will help Nordic continue to improve their workflow procedures. And, Foster expects the PECAS system will pay for itself in about 2-3 more months of operation. Foster concludes, “The PECAS system is low maintenance, with virtually no problems. Our employees really enjoy using the software and training is also very easy and fast.”
