Sloan Valve Flushes Paper Distribution and Storage Costs with Canon and eCopy

Press release from the issuing company

NASHUA, NEW HAMPSHIRE and LAKE SUCCESS, NEW YORK, March 19, 2003 – eCopy, Inc., leading provider of products that transform paper documents into digital information, and Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Canon Inc. and a leader in networked digital imaging solutions, today announced that Sloan Valve Company, a world-class manufacturer of plumbing systems, has revolutionized its paper workflow by deploying document distribution capabilities from Canon and eCopy. Canon recently expanded its long-term relationship with eCopy, Inc through a $15.8 million minority equity investment. Over its 97-year history, the Franklin Park, Illinois, Sloan Valve Company has consistently developed and marketed plumbing products for commercial and residential use. Most washrooms in office buildings, stadiums, airports, and other public facilities in North America are standardized on Sloan Valve products. This long history has lead to a massive amount of paper documentation that somehow had to be stored and then made easily available for review. The eCopy suite of products, coupled with the high speed scanning capabilities of Canon’s digital copier, enables Sloan Valve to transform paper documents into information that is easily integrated into all commonly used business applications. “We were spending way too much time and resources archiving and retrieving financial and other important documents,” said Debi Luff, IT Administrator for Sloan Valve. “At the same time, we were trying to deal with current documentation. I needed a solution that would simplify our entire document management process. The Canon/eCopy offering was the ideal fit.” Enhancing the flow Benefits of the eCopy/Canon solution include: • Eliminating the need to store paper documents, reducing cost and freeing up valuable space • Putting documentation on CD-ROM, making it much faster and more convenient to retrieve needed information • Working from a scanned document streamlined the review and approval process • Using the Canon/eCopy solution to e-mail contracts and quotes to vendors, resulting in impressive savings in long distance charges for faxes. “eCopy delivers the time savings, paper savings, and cost savings that are essential if companies are to achieve the efficiencies they need to be more competitive and successful in today’s global marketplace,” said Ms. Luff. “Looking back, I’m not sure how we ever did without it.” Sloan Valve anticipates expanding use of the system across the business. “That’s one of the most impressive things about the eCopy/Canon solution, said Ms. Luff. “People leave the training sessions actually excited about all the great, new ways they can use eCopy to make their life easier and their departments more efficient.”
