Carolina Web Goes CTP With Fujifilm Saber Vx-9600

Press release from the issuing company

HANOVER PARK, Ill. (March 2003) Carolina Web is now 100 percent CTP with its new installation of Fujifilm’s Saber violet laser device, says the company’s president, David Sand. A specialty web printer that was founded in 1998, Conover, N.C.-based Carolina Web specializes in printing and design for the traveling and tourism business. "We chose the Saber because of its violet technology," Sand notes. "Now, we can get a disk in the morning and get a plate out that afternoon. It used to take four days to send everything out and get everything back. Sand adds that the company went from zero percent CTP to 100 percent CTP when the company installed the Saber in December 2002. "We used to make the plates conventionally. We chose the Saber to speed up the process. What used to take 30 to 40 minutes now takes 8 minutes. Tim Larson, the company’s vice president of sales and marketing, explains that the transition to the Saber was easy for the staff. "It took us about three hours to figure the machine out. It took us a little longer to figure out the workflow." Sand says that he was not thinking about whether the Saber would help increase profits, but suspects that business could increase. "It will probably bring in new business, but when I purchased it, I didn’t bank on it." In its June 2002 issue, American Printer named Carolina Web the "Fastest Growing Printer in the Country, states Sand. "That’s pretty good for a four-year-old start-up company of only seven people. Sand says he is discreet when it comes to his clients, but adds that one of his clients is the country’s largest amusement park company.
