The Riverside Press-Enterprise Installs alfaQuest PrintExpress

Press release from the issuing company

Rolling Meadows, IL March 19, 2003 -- The Riverside CA Press-Enterprise (Belo Corporation) has installed alfaQuest Technologies’ PrintExpress Consolidated Production Management (CPM) server to replace its existing NT based distributed output management equipment. The PrintExpress configuration utilizes 2 Sun Fire V480 Servers for redundancy and disaster recovery, replacing 18 NT servers. The PrintExpress/CPM system is tightly integrated with the Press-Enterprise’s new pagination system, which runs on Sun Fire V880 Servers and shares data from an EMC Storage Area Network (SAN) device. "PrintExpress is running at our sister publications in Dallas and Providence with high marks at each, said Ben Coop, Systems Support Manager of the Press-Enterprise. When it became necessary to overhaul our output management system, there was never a question about what the replacement would be, the consensus was PrintExpress/CPM." "We were particularly impressed by the ability to tailor the application to suit our specific environment. alfaQuest clearly realizes that each production environment has unique output management workflow needs. PrintExpress provides the tools to meet those needs, and improve the workflow. As we learned more about PrintExpress and MGS3, our line of questioning moved from ‘Can it do X?’, to ‘How do we configure it to do X?’ This extremely flexible, configurable solution addresses our current needs and provides such powerful tools and options, it makes you excited about rethinking your workflow." "At the Press-Enterprise whenever possible, UNIX operating systems are chosen to improve flexibility and stability, particularly for mission critical applications. We appreciate alfaQuest’s commitment to the UNIX platform, when so many other vendors are resorting to Windows development." "Management and staff from alfaQuest’s sales, engineering, service and support have all been very supportive during the entire project specification and configuration process. It has been a pleasure to work with this team, and we look forward to a lengthy working relationship." The Riverside-Press Enterprise PrintExpress/CPM system is configured with the following suite of PrintExpress Consolidated Production Management modules: * MGS3 Workflow Manager * Adobe CPSI RIP technology * PostScript, TIFF, and PDF workflows * Network imaging to paper and film imagers * OnTrak page tracking * Network proofing * Virtual IP Clustering alfaQuest’s exclusive PrintExpress/CPM server configurations allow all software modules to be installed on fault-tolerant, scalable Sun Microsystems platforms. This consolidated server philosophy simplifies installation and configuration, as well as reducing ongoing system hardware and software maintenance costs. PrintExpress’ network licensing also allows CPM servers to be configured for automated/manual fail-over or, in clusters, for completely automatic fail-over.
