KPG: Matchprint Virtual Proofing System Earns SWOP Certification

Press release from the issuing company

Norwalk, Connecticut, USA - The Kodak Polychrome Graphics Matchprint Virtual Proofing System today achieved a milestone in the evolution of its industry standard monitor proofing technology, the awarding of SWOP (Specifications for Web Offset Publications) certification. SWOP certification validates the Matchprint Virtual Proofing System’s ability to deliver accurate RGB monitor viewing of CMYK color reproduction that reliably predicts final printed color in the web offset environment. “Achieving SWOP certification is a major development in addressing the most common concern of printers, advertising agencies and other graphic arts companies-the viability of monitor proofing to conform to universally recognized standards such as SWOP,” says Nancy Matchey, Product Manager, KPG. “Combining the Matchprint Virtual Proofing System’s proven color capability with the speed and efficiency of transferring files electronically delivers on the promise and benefits of a fully digital workflow.” With the Matchprint Virtual Proofing System, color proofs can be transported, viewed and approved or electronically marked and returned for corrections within minutes. Matchprint Virtual Proofing features a thorough, instrumented color calibration process to ensure consistent and accurate color from day to day, monitor to monitor and location to location. The process employs an automated, numerical (rather than visual) color science-based measurement process and ongoing color control methods to achieve and maintain optimum color rendition. SWOP certification of a color proofing system entails an intensive visual and numerical evaluation by a panel of SWOP-qualified industry experts experienced in viewing and judging color. Matchprint Virtual Proofs were compared visually with SWOP-certified press sheets and numerically with the detailed data in KPG’s SWOP Application Data Sheet (ADS). Each Matchprint Virtual Proof System includes an integrated tool to enable users to measure color bars or patches on screen and to confirm the proof conforms to color specifications in KPG’s Matchprint Virtual Proof ADS.
