Call for Nominations for Schaeffer Environmental Award Issued

Press release from the issuing company

Pittsburgh, Pa., February 27, 2003 — In 1990, the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (GATF) established an award to recognize individuals who unselfishly have made significant contributions towards environmentally sound practices in the graphic communications industry. GATF is now issuing an industry-wide call for candidates for the William D. Schaeffer Environmental Award. Nominations must be postmarked by May 30, 2003. This award is named for environmental pioneer and researcher Dr. William Dwight Schaeffer who recently passed away in early February 2003 at the age of 81. He was known and widely respected for providing environmentally sound activities for the graphic communications industries and a rational perspective for those who develop environmental regulations for the industry. The winner will be presented with an engraved plaque and honored at a luncheon during the 2003 PIA/GATF Administrative Meetings. Next scheduled for November 13–16, 2003 in San Antonio, Texas, this forum hosts an impressive audience of industry leaders including boards of directors and committee members for GATF and its Society of Fellows; Printing Industries of America (PIA) and its Ash Khan Society; and the Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation (PGSF). Additionally the winner’s name will be added to a roster of “who’s who” of printing industry notables. Past winners include Marcia Kinter, Henry Rodriguez, Gerald Bonetto, Tom Reese, Gerald Bender, and Albert Materazzi. Candidates do not have to be GATF/PIA members and there is no nomination fee. A committee comprised of noted industry leaders will make the award selection. To receive a nomination form, contact Alissa Gould, GATF’s public relations manager, by phoning 412/741-6860 extension 702 or by emailing [email protected]. Written requests can be directed to GATF, 200 Deer Run Road, Sewickley, PA 15143-2600.
