Xaar appoints Ramon Borrell Research & Development Director

Press release from the issuing company

July 17, 2007 -- Xaar plc the inkjet printing technology group headquartered in Cambridge, is pleased to announce that Mr Ramon Borrell has been appointed Research & Development Director and a Director of the Company with effect from 27 August 2007.  Steve Temple, currently Technical Director, will be stepping down from the board and from full time employment with the company at the end of September but will continue to advise Xaar as a consultant and in particular will work with Mr Borrell over the balance of this year to ensure a smooth hand-over.

Ramon Borrell, aged 43, is a Spanish citizen.  He will be joining Xaar from Hewlett-Packard (“HP”) where he has worked since 1994.  Most recently he has been Senior New Product Development Manager within HP's Large Format Printing Division which develops large format inkjet printing machines for sale world-wide.  Immediately prior to that appointment, Ramon was Director of Technology Strategy and R&D Chief Product Architect for the same HP division.  He is a Member of the Imaging Science and Technology Society where he was elected as Vice President and Secretary of the Board of Directors in 2006.

Steve Temple has been with Xaar since its inception in 1990 and has been the principal architect of its world-leading inkjet technology.  Under his technology leadership, Xaar has registered more than 90 patents.  More recently he has focused his attention on establishing a technology roadmap to enable Xaar to widen its range of potential markets, and is the inventor of Xaar's unique Platform 3 product which was launched earlier this year.

Ian Dinwoodie, Chief Executive commented:

“I would like to express our warmest thanks to Steve Temple for the huge contribution he has made to Xaar since joining the company at its inception in 1990.  His vision, expertise and tireless leadership have given Xaar a technology which is second to none in the world of inkjet printing and helped to establish Cambridge as a world centre of excellence for all things inkjet related.  We wish him and his family every success in his next venture.”

“We are pleased to welcome Ramon Borrell to Xaar and him and his family to the UK.  He has extensive knowledge of inkjet technologies and their marketplace and has already demonstrated his ability to lead a sizeable technology development group in a major global enterprise.  We look forward to his leadership as we continue to convert technology inventions into commercial products.”
