Drong of Sun Chemical Corporation Honored with NAPL Award

Paramus, N.J., Feb. 21, 2003 — Richard “Dick” Drong, marketing manager, Sheetfed Offset Inks in North America, Sun Chemical Corporation, Northlake, Ill., is the recipient of the 2003 Technical Leadership Award from the National Association for Printing Leadership (NAPL). The award will be presented to Drong on Feb. 22, 2003, during NAPL’s 2003 Top Management Conference in Scottsdale, Ariz. In announcing the award, Joseph P. Truncale, NAPL president and CEO, said, “The graphic arts industry has benefited greatly from Dick’s expertise in all aspects of ink technology and his commitment to sharing that expertise to advance the industry. He personifies the spirit of the Technical Leadership Award and we are very happy to name him as our 2003 recipient.” The award recognizes Drong’s expertise in both web offset heatset publication inks and sheetfed offset ink systems for the commercial and folding carton markets and his proficiency in waterless ink technology. He is also being honored for broadening the knowledge and use of advanced, ecologically friendly ink systems through his contributions to numerous industry publications, and as a speaker at major industry shows and conferences, including the GATF/NAPL Sheetfed Pressroom Conference. In addition, he has served as president of the Label Packaging Suppliers Council and the Chicago Printing Ink Production Club, and supported various activities of NAPL and the Chicago Litho Club. Drong’s career with Sun Chemical Corporation began more than 30 years ago with a high school technical training program. He advanced through various positions, including manager of the company’s National Paste Ink Service Laboratory, and, most recently, marketing manager, Sheetfed Offset Inks in North America. About the NAPL Technical Leadership Award: The Technical Leadership Award is presented annually to an individual in the graphic arts industry who personifies the principles of craftsmanship. The award recognizes definable achievement in some area of technical endeavor that can be broadly characterized as technical leadership. This leadership may be demonstrated through work in associations or practical technological achievement or intervention. The Technical Leadership Award is part of the NAPL Awards program, which also includes an Industry Award.. The NAPL Industry Award is bestowed annually to a graphic arts manufacturer or supplier company in recognition of a specific, noteworthy contribution to the industry. Candidate companies must also have an untarnished record of conducting business fairly and honestly and of providing quality products or services.
