DAYTON, OH -- 02/12/2003 -- Scitex Digital Printing announced today the appointment of Karl Cerny as vice president and managing director of European Operations effective April 1. Cerny will succeed John Doyan who will continue to serve the company as European strategic consultant reporting to Nachum “Homi” Shamir, president and CEO of Scitex Digital Printing. Shamir recognized the accomplishments of both executives when commenting on the appointments. “I have had the pleasure of working with John for nearly 10 years and have seen first hand how the European market has expanded under his leadership. I have the utmost respect for what he has done for the company, but I respect as well his desire to contribute in a new capacity. “At the same time, I am delighted that Karl has made the decision to join Scitex Digital Printing. John and I both agree that we have selected exactly the right person for this time in our company.” Commenting on Cerny’s appointment and his new role, Doyan said, “Having Karl join Scitex Digital Printing has made my decision far less anxious. He has depth of experience and is uniquely qualified to guide our European organization. My almost 20 years with the company and these past five years as managing director have been extremely rewarding, but I am ready to move on to something new and greatly appreciate Homi’s support.” Cerny joins Scitex Digital Printing from Unisys where he held the position of vice president and general manager Global Infrastructure Services, Europe. Prior to this position, Cerny had a 19-year career with Xerox Europe where among key executive positions he served as vice president of the Xerox Production Systems Group, Europe; he also served in other management positions in international sales and marketing. “Karl brings a unique set of qualifications and experience to this position,” said Shamir. “He has a rich sales and technical background, a thorough understanding of international markets and a proven track record of solid leadership. He shares my strategic vision and mission for Scitex Digital Printing and recognizes the great growth potential of our technology.” The question of Cerny’s decision to join Scitex Digital Printing was asked often during Cerny’s first days on the job. “Frankly, I came to Scitex Digital Printing because I am excited about the technology; I am excited about what business color technology can do for the European market that must rethink its approach to technology. I thank both Homi and John for their votes of confidence and look forward to working with them during this transition period and continuing to build on the success of the operation here.” A native of Austria, where he and his family currently reside, Cerny graduated from the Technologisches Gewerbemuseum in Vienna where he studied mechanical engineering and business management.
