CGATS names Robert Kinson as 2003 Rollie Award recipient

Press release from the issuing company

February 11, 2003 -- Robert D. Kinson, Vice President/Engineering and Quality at Baumfolder Corporation, is the tenth recipient of the Roland Zavada Standards Award, "The Rollie," presented by The Committee for Graphic Arts Technologies Standards (CGATS). The award will be presented on March 24 during the National Environmental Health & Safety Conference in Louisville, Kentucky. The award recognizes an individual who has made significant and sustained contributions to the development of U.S. graphic arts standards through participation in the work of accredited standards committees. Kinson has been involved in the design and manufacture of graphic arts equipment since joining the Harris Corporation in 1979. His expertise embraces a full range of stitching, binding, and other finishing equipment. He joined Baumfolder Corporation in 1992 and the following year became active in the work of the B65 Committee accredited by the American National Standards Institute. As a member of this committee Kinson helped to develop the current B65.2 Safety Standard for Binding and Finishing Systems, serving as co-chair of the B65 subcommittee that executed that work. He is currently chair of the full B65 committee. On the international level, Kinson is a U.S. technical expert on the International Organization for Standardization’s Technical Committee 130 (Graphic Technology) Working Group 5 (Safety and Ergonomics). He also chairs a WG5 Task Force focusing on symbology to be used on printing equipment. Kinson holds several patents for innovations in finishing equipment and is a member of the American Society for Quality. He earned an associate degree in electro-mechanical design from New Hampshire Vocational Technical College. Through this experience, Kinson fully met the Rollie Award criteria, which call for active participation on an accredited standards committee(s) for more than three years, promotion and support of standards development, leadership in the development of standards for the graphic arts and/or printing and publishing, or other significant technical and/or administrative support to an accredited standards committee. CGATS was formed in 1987, with the goal of representing the entire scope of printing, publishing and converting technologies within one national standardization and coordination effort, while respecting the established activities of existing accredited standards committees and industry standards developers.
