Quad/Graphics Named Time Inc. Printer of the Year For Weekly Mag Production

Press release from the issuing company

PEWAUKEE, Wis.--Jan. 21, 2003--For the fourth consecutive year, Quad/Graphics has earned distinction as Time Inc.'s Weekly Magazine Printer of the Year. The title, sought by printing companies and facilities across the United States, is one of the highest honors a printer can earn for magazine production. Specifically, Quad/Graphics' plant in The Rock, Georgia, earned the honor for exceptional weekly production of Sports Illustrated, People, Time and Entertainment Weekly during 2002. Each week The Rock plant prints approximately 2.8 million combined copies of the four popular magazine titles. The company's Saratoga Springs, N.Y., plant won top honors for weekly magazine production in 1999, 2000 and 2001. In determining its Weekly Magazine Printer of the Year, Time Inc. grades Quad/Graphics and its other printers on quality of product, paper waste and overall turnaround time. "This award demonstrates the high caliber of work to which our employees are committed at The Rock plant," said Barbara Tyson, Quad/Graphics' The Rock Plant Manager. "We are honored to receive recognition for the efforts put forth by every employee, who reflect our devotion to top-level customer service. Truly, this was a team effort and every employee played a vital role in securing this award of excellence." While Quad/Graphics' plants in the The Rock, Ga., and Saratoga Springs, N.Y., compete annually against other printers and printing facilities for the Weekly Magazine Printer of the Year title, the company also produces Time Inc. work at its Hartford and Lomira, Wis., facilities. Quad/Graphics' Hartford plant prints inserts for Time Inc. weeklies, as well as specials, including Sports Illustrated's high-profile swimsuit edition. Beginning this July, Quad/Graphics' Lomira facility will start printing In Style magazine and specials as part of a brand new, multi-year agreement announced in August 2002. Quad/Graphics' relationship with Time Inc. spans 20 years.
