DPI Conference in St. Louis: Special Andre Schellenberg Awards Display

Press release from the issuing company

December 16, 2002 -- A special display of Andre Schellenberg Award graphics was mounted at the DPI Conference in St. Louis.   The display exhibited eighteen Schellenberg-winning graphics, not only winners of the 2002 Schellenberg competition (held this past March), but also for prior years back to 1997.  The display included three Best-of-Show Awards, and the 2002 Best-of-Show winner, "Lepidoptera" from Lower Color Graphics.  Previous Best-oif-Show winners shown were "Big Beard" by BGM Imaging (1999) and "Metamorphous" from Formulabs (1997); the "Metamorphous" graphic was created by reknowned digital artist Bonny Lhotka. "Lepidoptera" is a 48" square museum graphic, created on three levels of Lexan, with a brilliant image of a butterfly, and combining a variety of materials including frosted vinyl text.  It was created by digital artist Chad Beatty. One of the more interesting winners displayed was "Pinot Grigio Picnic" submitted by Roland DGA Corp.  The multipurposed graphic was used throughout the unique entry which included a tablecloth and napkins, as well as a cardboard box and wine lable, all using common graphic elements.  The various elements included several disparate media such as polysilk soft cloth and waterfast matte vinyl. One of several fabric pieces in the display was "Face" from Dye Into Print Inc.  This hanging is a dye sublimation transfer on a metallic mesh textile.  The image was created by artist Joohyun Pyune. Other Schellenberg winners displayed included 2002 winners "In Rust We Trust" by HiLord Chemicals, "Illusion:" by Dye into Print, and "Scarf Set" and "Napolean Jacket" both by Color Textiles.  Winners from previous years, displayed in St. Louis, were: "Woman and Child" by Shiahatgar Productions, "Mono Lake" and "Barkley" both by Robyn Color, Mural of Europe" by Amiable Technologies, "Wall Mural" by Killer Kolor, Megapolis 3 from Polcom Polska, and "Rome" by ColorGate. Framing the entry to the Schellenberg Display was a set of 12' curtains created especially for this display, by 3P Inkjet Textiles of Stephanskirchen, Germany.  DPI expressed its gratitude to managing director Thomas Poetz and his colleagues at 3P. DPI officials point out that the 2003 Schellenberg Competition/Awards program will be featured at the DPI Conference next year, Oct. 15-18, 2003, in Atlanta, GA.  Complete information will be available in the late Spring, on the DPI website or direct from the DPI office.
