Gannett: The Journal News Taps Autologic For Complete CtP Conversion

Mortsel, Belgium - 2002 November 20 - Autologic, an Agfa company, today announced that it has completed an agreement to supply newspaper production systems and solutions to The Journal News, a Gannett Co. newspaper. The Journal News, the leading provider of news and information for New York's Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties, has a daily circulation of 145,889 and Sunday circulation of 174,600. Among the solutions, the Journal News will be installing: * Three 3850/120 Computer-to-Plate (CtP) platesetters * VSP 85S Plate Processors * Plateroom Manager premier workflow solution * Output Manager workflow management tool * OptiBend plate punch/bending system * PagePair with 4- and 8-up option * GRAFIX RIPs * APSolute Color digital proofers * IntelliTune Image management software "We have a long-standing relationship with Autologic," said Gerry Riley, VP of Production for The Journal News. The Journal News' prepress operations, with the introduction of CtP digital workflow technology, are poised to vastly improve the final output thanks to Autologic workflow solutions. The prepress functions now require less manual intervention, creating new opportunities to apply the gained human capital to more productive tasks. The N91 is ideal for newspaper applications, meeting medium pressruns to over 450,000 impressions. A new ultra-durable coating provides superior imaging and run length and is suitable for medium or long running web- or sheet-fed presses. Its photopolymer coating has been tuned for laser exposure, using visible instead of UV.
