Pittsburgh, Pa., November 18, 2002 — James E. Herbst, president of the Commercial Print Group of Henry Wurst, Inc. of Apex, North Carolina, was recently named chair of the Board of Directors for the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (GATF). The announcement was made at the joint GATF/PIA Board of Directors annual meeting November 17, 2002 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Herbst has served on the Board of Directors at PIA and GATF, the GATF/PIA Finance Committee, and the GATF Executive Committee. In addition, he is active with the Wake County Public School. He served as chairman of both their School to Career program and their Apprenticeship Committee. Currently, Herbst serves as a member of the Apex High School Business Education Leadership Council and chairman of the Wake Tech Community College Foundation. Board. Originally from Buffalo, New York, Herbst earned a BS and MBA from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1975 and 1976 respectively. Herbst and his wife, Eileen, have three children and live in North Carolina. Outgoing GATF chairman, Jerry B. Williamson (chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Williamson Printing Corporation in Dallas, Texas), introduced Herbst’s supporting officers including newly elected Jim Mayers as vice-chair. Expected to hold their positions for one year, the officers are: * Vice-Chair — Jim Mayers, president of Colorcraft of Virginia, Inc. in Sterling, Virginia * Treasurer — Charles R. Zunk, an industry consultant based in Cincinnati, Ohio * Secretary — Laura Gale, vice president of priNexus in Norcross, Georgia In addition to the new leadership, the GATF Board welcomed newcomers expected to serve a traditional three-year term: * Stephan Carter, president and chief operating officer of Komori America Corporation in Rolling Meadows, Illinois * Howard Kaneff, chairman of the board for Arkay Packaging in Hauppauge, New York * Edward Marino, president and chief executive officer of Presstek, Inc. in Hudson, New Hampshire * William Pearson, executive vice president of manufacturing of Berman Printing in Cincinnati, Ohio * Susan Mattivi Wittner, marketing director of Graphic Systems, Agfa Corporation in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey These five new board members take their positions as eight GATF board members complete their terms. In April 2001, both the GATF and PIA boards of directors made a historic decision to work towards an overlapping membership on their respective boards and other committees. “The decision does not complete the consolidation of the two groups, but is a major step in unifying the governance of the two organizations,” said Herbst. “It will allow our associations to move more quickly toward a shared vision for the future, and enable us to coordinate the planning and program direction to better serve the interests of our members.”
