Western States Moves into Its New Label Facility

Press release from the issuing company

Sun Prairie, WI – The five-month project to build a new state-of-the-art label plant in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin ended in early March.  Western States Envelope & Label, headquartered in Butler, Wisconsin, moved their label operations from a leased facility in Madison, Wisconsin to the new location.  The now fully operational 36,000 square feet of office and manufacturing space offers many efficiencies, as well as energy–saving features.

Eric Schmidt, plant manager, estimates a 20 percent energy savings compared to the smaller, leased space that served as their plant for ten years.  “It makes a big difference to be able to build a plant with optimal workflow planning in manufacturing, prepress, and customer service,” noted Schmidt.  He adds, “We were able to put our processes together in ways to serve customers better.  That was the goal.”   The company’s need for a new label facility was fueled by several years of double-digit sales growth.

Western States expects its label growth to continue.  The next time expansion is needed, however, the company won’t be moving.  It has capability to triple its square footage right on the parcel it now occupies.  Even the specially constructed outer walls can be reused to provide expanded floor space.   Mark Lemberger, president of Western States, says, “We see labels as a strong growth area for us.  Many of our current envelope customers are just now coming to see us as a high quality prime label source.  We have great people in our Label Division that brought us to where we are today.  Our future looks bright.”
