Latran Technologies Introduced as New Name of Polaroid Graphics Imaging

Press release from the issuing company

BEDFORD, MA, November 19, 2002 – "Latran Technologies LLC" was introduced today as the new name for Polaroid Graphics Imaging, one of the industry's leaders in advanced digital halftone proofing systems. The name change underscores Latran Technologies' status as an independent company and erases the last link to the Polaroid name. Anthony P. Crupi, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Latran Technologies, announced the name change, noting, "The adoption of Latran Technologies as our new name gives us a fresh image platform that enables us to reaffirm our vision as a strong, independent and innovative business enterprise focused entirely on quality digital imaging technologies. Now as Latran Technologies we are continuing to implement our aggressive corporate strategy centered on meeting the needs of the graphic arts industry with our growing line of superior, high-productivity proofing systems. Industry segments that we serve include commercial printing, tradeshops, packaging, card manufacturing and security printing. Additionally, Latran Technologies is exploring new applications for our award-winning, patented LAT technologies for expansion into areas within and beyond the Graphic Arts industry." Name and Logo Background The new corporate name "Latran" (pronounced L_-tr_n) and the corporate logo are derived from the words "Laser Ablation Transfer," the advanced patented technology employed in the company's digital halftone proofing systems to transfer pigmented printing inks by directly imaging or transferring to actual printing stocks. The Latran Technologies logo has been designed to symbolically represent the Laser Ablation Transfer process. The logo design elements portray an ink color sheet juxtaposed over an underlying sheet of printing stock onto which a digital image is transferred. Both are positioned against a disk-shaped background symbolizing the real halftone dots reproduced by Latran Technologies' proofing systems. The unique new name and distinctive logo design were developed for the company by Broadford & Maloney, Inc. of Greenwich, Connecticut which has served as the public relations and advertising agency for Latran Technologies LLC since the inception of the enterprise a decade ago. Independent Status The business of Latran Technologies was founded in 1987 as the Graphics Imaging Division of Polaroid Corporation. It was acquired by Latran and has been an independent enterprise since 1999. The enterprise used the trademark name "Polaroid" in its corporate entity name (Polaroid Graphics Imaging) and in association with its proofing products (PolaProof) under a license agreement. Latran Technologies' Products The company's highly successful product line includes the Prediction 2000 Automatic Digital Halftone Proofing System , and the Prediction 2230* and Prediction 1420* Digital Halftone Proofing Systems. The systems deliver high-resolution, realistic proofs that match the actual press sheet with unparalleled accuracy and productivity, using Laser Ablation Transfer (LAT) technology to transfer pigmented printing inks directly to actual printing stocks. With their ease of use and wide selection of industry standard color sets including Hexachrome, metallics, spot colors and opaque white, the Prediction systems are the quality proofing standards in the digital halftone proofing market. Latran Technologies today is a solidly independent company carrying forward a 15 year heritage in the Graphic Arts market and a recognized leader in advanced digital halftone proofing technology. From headquarters in Bedford, Massachusetts, the company is focused solely on developing, manufacturing and marketing digital imaging solutions. Latran Technologies' proofing systems easily integrate into the workflows of many graphics industry leaders which have long strategic relationships with Latran Technologies. Committed to the industry's future, Latran Technologies has an ongoing program to enhance the capabilities of its current family of digital halftone proofing systems as it explores new tracks for product development.
