Banta Expands Packaging and Fulfillment Capabilities

Press release from the issuing company

MENASHA, WI --- Banta Corporation today announced that it will open a fourth packaging and fulfillment operation in the Fox Cities. The 210,000-square-foot facility, now under construction at N9234 Lake Park Rd. in the Town of Harrison, is being developed by Warehouse Specialists, Inc., and leased to Banta. "We’ve outgrown our three existing facilities and we are looking forward to being able to provide our customers with even more efficient fulfillment and distribution services when the new facility becomes operational this coming spring," said Banta Book Group President Bob Kreider. Banta currently operates packaging and fulfillment facilities on Brighton Beach Road in Menasha, West Converters Drive in Appleton, Prospect Lane in Kaukauna, as well as a facility in Harrisonburg, Va. "With this added capacity, we’ll have the flexibility to move workload within our existing facilities to better use our space and resources effectively," said Banta’s Dan Thornton, Senior Vice President, Banta Packaging and Fulfillment. The new facility incorporates the latest technologies for efficiently managing inventories, tracking and fulfilling customer orders, and distributing product worldwide. Its warehouse management system will include barcoding and radio frequency technology to manage workload and productivity, plus an automated conveyor system to sort and accumulate orders. When at full capacity, the new operation will employ up to 75 Banta employees. Approximately 40 new positions will be created, 20 to 25 positions at facility start-up with additional positions added as the workload increases. Current employees will also transfer from Banta’s packaging and fulfillment facility in Menasha. That operation will continue to employ 150 to 200 people. The new facility will initially handle assembly, order fulfillment, and distribution services for Workman Publishing, a New York-based publisher. Among Workman’s products processed at the new facility will be the Page-a-Day calendar series, the Cake Mix Doctor & Barbecue Bible cook books, the What to Expect… series of pregnancy and childhood development books, the Brain Quest and Fandex trivia decks, as well as a variety of specialized books packaged with related print and non-print products. Banta has provided Workman with fulfillment and distribution expertise for the past 30 years. The Banta Book Group, headquartered in Menasha, is one of the largest book printers in North America, producing a wide variety of trade books, educational materials, technical manuals and business-to-business catalogs.
