Oce Announces Implementation, Availability of New UP3I Universal Interface

Press release from the issuing company

New Interface Links the Production Chain for Improved Productivity, Compatibility, and Streamlined Digital Document Automation. ANAHEIM, CA., October 28, 2002 (Xplor Booth 632)—Oce, a leader in digital document management and delivery technology, today announced availability of the new UP3I Interface on the new Oce VarioStream‘ and Oce VarioPrint families of printing devices. As a member of a consortium of forward-thinking vendors that have joined forces in a collaborative effort to create and develop a Universal Printer Pre- and Post-processing interface (UP3I), Oce is one of the first vendors on the market to integrate this important interface into its products and to offer it for customer use. The UP3I initiative, was formed to establish an internationally binding communications interface for all hardware components in a process line. UP3I is based on an open, vendor-independent, non-proprietary standard enabling integration with present and future workflow management standards. It enables integration with other workflow standards, such as JDF developed by CIP4, by being the conduit for job ticket and control information to reach every device in the digital print line. With the first implementation of UP3I a range of features is available including automatic job changeovers, real-time process control, automatic waste reject, automatic job recovery and reprinting, single point of operator control, dynamic finishing and delivery control and enhanced document appearance. Thanks to a uniform look and feel and intuitive handling of devices in the print line, the UP3I interface delivers important productivity benefits—it optimizes production workflows, saves the expenses of implementing several different interfaces, and decreases waste. Cooperation In Communication The basic UP3I concept was developed by a core team of manufacturers including Duplo, Hunkeler, Oce, Stralfors, IBM and Xerox. Oce Printing Systems USA, Inc, will be showcasing the benefits of the new UP3I interface as it demonstrates its implementation in the new Oce VarioStream 7650cxTwin system in booth # 632 at the Xplor Exhibition and Conference taking place this week in Anaheim, California.
