Brown Printing Pledges $50,000, Establishing PGSF Endowed Scholarship

Press release from the issuing company

Pittsburgh, Pa., October 24, 2002 — Brown Printing Company, headquartered in Waseca, Minnesota, recently pledged $50,000 to the Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation (PGSF) to establish the Wayne "Bumps" Brown Honorary Scholarship. After the fund matures, the scholarship will be awarded each year to a full-time college junior or senior enrolled in a related major. A Gruner + Jahr Company and a subsidiary of Bertelsmann AG, Brown Printing Company is the fifth largest publication printer in the country and an industry leader in producing America’s finest magazines, catalogs, and inserts. "Along with their other significant support to education, they have added another major component to help in developing the industry’s and their company’s future workforce," said Ted C. Ringman, PGSF vice president of development. The gift becomes PGSF’s 102nd endowed fund, and Brown becomes the latest member of the PGSF Senefelder Society. PGSF has three top-tiered levels of giving: the Print Heritage Society, honoring gifts of $25,000–$49,999; the Senefelder Society, honoring gifts of $50,000–$99,999; and the Gutenberg Society, honoring gifts of $100,000 or more. Tom Engdahl, president and CEO of Brown Printing, commented as follows: "Our founder, Wayne ‘Bumps’ Brown, through his vision and leadership, built a culture and an organization that places great value on education. Thus it is appropriate that this scholarship be named in his honor. His inputs as Chairman Emeritus continue to be valued by our employees and the communities in which we operate. Education is important to us, and Brown Printing Company is pleased to make this investment in the future."
