Offers New Capability for Customers Looking to Expand Print Services ANAHEIM, Calif., Oct. 28, 2002 – Traditionally, DocuTech printing systems have been used for publishing and DocuPrint printing systems have been used for transactional printing. Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) today introduced a new printing system designed to do both: the Xerox DocuTech EPS. DocuTech EPS meets the needs of customers who require DocuTech’s built-in finishing capabilities and the ability to natively print LCDS data streams traditionally associated with DocuPrint systems that print bills, statements, accounting reports and other data center applications. The DocuTech EPS is available for the 6100, 6115, 6135, 6155 and 6180 models. The option is designed to meet the needs of several groups of customers: - DocuPrint customers who desire the tape binding and flexible stitching that comes standard with a DocuTech. - Publishing customers who have a limited need to do transactional printing or DocuTech customers who need to supplement their data center capacity at peak volume times. - Data center customers looking to upgrade older equipment to the current generation without loss of existing finishing. "As print providers look for more ways to bolster productivity, the long-heralded confluence of transaction- and publishing-oriented printing is rapidly becoming reality," said Mark Waxenberg, vice president and general manager, Xerox Monochrome Business Unit. In the past, "transforms" — software and hardware that translate one data stream to another — have been available for the DocuTech line; however, DocuTech EPS is the first high-volume publishing system to handle the LCDS data stream natively without a conversion. Transforms introduce the possibility of mis-translating the length, layout or appearance of the original document. Handling the job in a native format eliminates the need for a quality assurance step that exists with transformed jobs. In addition to LCDS, the printer also natively prints PCL, Adobe PostScript 3, PDF, ASCII, and TIFF data. The DocuTech EPS will be available in North America beginning in December. Pricing will be available at launch, and it will be sold through the Xerox direct sales force and agents.
