Mohawk 50/10plus: in the right place at the right time

Press release from the issuing company

[Cohoes, NY] — Printers who are tired of searching for the perfect papers to optimize every single piece of offset and digital equipment in their shops can now look to a single portfolio to maximize print performance for all the ways they print. That’s what the Bates Jackson Engraving Company did. Mohawk 50/10plus for all the ways printers print on coated For quality color on coated paper, this New York-based printer tried, and now swears, by Mohawk’s 50/10plus. "I like the sheet and the mill’s reputation," says E.J. Flammer, executive vice president, Bates Jackson Engraving Company. "We used a ton of Mohawk Superfine on our offset and engraving presses and knew Mohawk made a great sheet. When we needed a good looking/running coated sheet for digital we found 50/10plus a perfect fit." Mohawk 50/10plus offers an elegant, smooth surface guaranteed for exceptional printability and high ink-gloss without glare. "50/10plus ran extremely well in our tests and looked great. All types of digital imagery, especially photographs, are very sharp on this paper," adds Flammer. Bates Jackson: On the cutting edge of a new trend Due to the burgeoning digital market, Flammer is on the cutting edge of a new and fast-growing movement among printers nationwide, identifying and stocking only house sheets that perform well on all output devices, including digital and offset. In this new paper generation, cross-platform papers are made by only a few mills, Mohawk being one of those mills who have marked their commitment to this market early. The benefits of cross-platform papers Today’s color copiers require a new class of papers developed for performance and crafted to the highest standards for print-after-print consistency and quality. Few paper manufacturers have recognized the need for papers that not only meet the needs of these new generation output devices, but also work on conventional presses, especially in the coated segment. These cross-platform papers enable printers to simplify sourcing, stocking and time-consuming testing. "Abstract ideas don’t stay abstract for long at Mohawk," says Mohawk’s Christopher Harrold, manager of national accounts and business development. 50/10plus is a shining example of Mohawk’s commitment to providing strategic product solutions for printers of all sizes. Double-digit growth for Mohawk Today, Mohawk has found itself in the right place at the right time with the right product portfolio to meet increased demand for printers of all sizes, and especially those who are intent to grow their digital business. Harrold says Mohawk’s 50/10plus is a good example of this new trend; he says it is the fastest growing coated cut-size paper in the segment. The numbers bear out Mohawk’s strategy. Leading industry analysts at Lyra estimate that roughly 11% of cut-size papers used by quick printers are coated, and this volume is fast growing as a percentage of total demand. In fact, Lyra predicts these coated papers will continue to trend upward due to an increase in the number of digital color copiers, production printers and digital presses, and that print volume will be driven largely by the continued transition from offset multi-color printing to digital output. Mohawk is one of the few mills that offers a premium coated option, Mohawk 50/10plus, as well as a complete portfolio of premium uncoated papers, for all the ways printers print, offset or digital. As such, Mohawk has grown its share dramatically with double-digit increases, at a time when the sales in nearly every print and paper segment have been tested daily. Mohawk Paper Mills, Inc. is a leader in the manufacture of premium printing papers. From its flagship grade, Mohawk Superfine, through proprietary Inxwell products, Navajo and Options, Mohawk has engineered its papers to provide optimal performance for sheetfed, web and digital printing.
