[Cohoes, NY] — Mohawk Specialty Converting Services recently added a new Evtec sheeter to its equipment line-up to offer added versatility to cut-sizes, specialty sizes and small orders. This move provides Mohawk customers with a full-range of options for sizes and packages. "The Evtec sheeter is a great addition to Mohawk’s Specialty Converting line-up," says Tom O’Connor, Jr., president and chief operating officer. "It complements our 6-pocket Bielomatic sheeter, which is geared to larger run sizes. The Evtec provides shorter run sizes on a wide range of sheet sizes. That means Mohawk is now positioned to handle everything from the large cut-size order to the small, custom size order." This investment is the most recent acquisition by Mohawk as part of its $15 million capital expenditure to enhance productivity and respond to customer demand. A Bielomatic sheeter, giving Mohawk the flexibility to package sheets in non-traditional quantities and in different substrates, was added to Mohawk’s equipment line-up two years ago. Last year, Mohawk Specialty Converting also installed a Jennerjahn Winder to support the growing digital papers market. The new Evtec sheeter is a 4-pocket precision sheeter with two unwind stations. It offers a cut-to-register capability, and is intended to support the full range of Mohawk grades as well as photo paper and films in a broad range of basis weights. The Evtec handles 3-in. and 6-in. cores with a maximum web width to 38-in. A new wrapper, to be installed 4th quarter, will provide the capability to wrap 75 reams per minute. Between the Evtec and the Bielomatic, Mohawk is now capable of producing up to 200 reams per minute. Mohawk’s new ream-wrap packaging, also launched earlier this year, is produced from a white poly-one-side high–strength material that exceeds industry standards for important characteristics of burst, tear and moisture barrier. Custom solutions are also available.
