Micrel Taps StreamServe to Automate Logistics Cmmunications

Press release from the issuing company

Lexington, MA and San Jose, CA – (October 23, 2002) – StreamServe today announced that Micrel Inc. (NASDAQ: MCRL), an industry leader in the design and manufacture of integrated circuits for the high-speed communications, power management and analog markets, has implemented StreamServe’s Business Communication Platform. Micrel leverages StreamServe’s solution to manage communications for all international and domestic warehouse shipping operations; to date, the platform has delivered substantial gains in efficiency, created a totally paperless operation and automated Micrel’s entire backend warehousing operations. Roland Carlson, CIO for Micrel Inc. explains, "Micrel selected the Business Communication Platform due to StreamServe’s ability to meet – and exceed – our exact business requirements. For instance, NAFTA trade agreement documents must be delivered in a very specific format, so we needed a solution that would provide sophisticated capabilities in that arena and allow us to personalize documents in a variety of different ways. We needed the ability to send these communications electronically and be able to store and save documents in PDF format for easy retrieval, resend or reprint. StreamServe delivered in every way." The StreamServe solution was deployed on time and interfaced readily to Micrel’s ERP system without disruption to the existing operations. Today, Micrel leverages the Business Communication Platform to create and electronically send a variety of warehousing logistics documents, including invoices, pack and pick lists, SLIs (shippers letter of introduction), SEDs (shippers export declaration) and NAFTA forms for Canada and Mexico. In addition to sophisticated formatting and personalization capabilities, the platform offers the ability to archive and store PDF documents in Micrel’s SQL database for later retrieval. "StreamServe’s offering has allowed Micrel to automate its formerly time consuming processes, enabling the company to transform its warehouse shipping operations to a paperless operation," remarked Hal Bennett, President, StreamServe Americas. "StreamServe’s ability to offer a single communication layer that provides personalization tools and seamless integration with any existing ERP software are key advantages that no other competitor can deliver. The combination of these offerings is quite powerful and enables our customers to gain efficiencies that they never could have achieved with any other solution." Micrel has reaped the following benefits by using the StreamServe platform: - Increased customer satisfaction due to streamlined communication abilities - Enabled full customisation of Documentation to meet customer/shipper preferences - Reduced DSO due to prompt invoicing procedures - Enabled access to real-time reports via archiving capabilities - Drastically reduced manual effort following automation of warehouse communications "The ROI we’ve gained is truly outstanding," further explains Carlson. "Each individual consolidated customer international shipment was reduced from over 1 hour of personnel preparation time to less than 1 minute. International faxing went from a manual process of 5 hours per day for one person to zero as we moved to a paperless, fully electronic operation. These were major improvements in the efficiency of the warehouse and have enabled us to save both time and money." Micrel plans to use StreamServe’s communication layer to deploy documents in other countries where they have established warehouse shipping operations, such as Malaysia and Taiwan. Micrel expects that these warehouses will be set up on the StreamServe platform in the very near future. About Micrel Inc.
